Default Best value for my code reader for 2005 Jdm impreza.

Hi again.

can anyone recommend a decent value for money code reader.

My spec c has started miss firing while it's been in storage and can't get it to a garage as it's unregistered at the moment,

it's got a new set of plugs in so they should be good and don't want to waste money on unnecessary parts,

Can anyone recommend one so I don't end up wasting my money please?

thanks a lot.

I got mine on ebay for 15 £ or so , they vary from 10 to 25£ for a basic one , then they get more expensive depending on your budget , a basic code reader will tell you most things

I found the small Bluetooth reader really tricky to remove afterwards, so if recommended getting a longer cable to go with it.

Because most if not all Subaru JDM's use SSM and not OBDII.....................

OBDKey with Torque app setup for SSM is one combination
Worth a read as to what does/doesn't work

The cheap Chinese clones are copies of v1.4, which was open source Whilst they should work, v1.4 didn't cover all vehicles and had limited functionality.

Genuine v2.1 have greater functionality, cover more vehicles and are far more reliable. They start at about £80. Avoid cheap adapters that claim that they are v2.1 as they are full of bugs.

Buy cheap, buy twice...
