Default Japspeed - very puzzling!

So as some of you may know I was on the hunt for a front mount intercooler.

Ed@Japspeed is no longer a trader, infact they don't advertise on here anymore period so no more group buys. So I emailed them and asked what deals they can offer soon as I have used them in the past and I'm an enthusiast.

They replied "Their Japspeed front mount kit for the hatch is £400, I can have it for £380"... I replied "how so when you advertise on eBay for £380 and £280 depending on whether you want the advert staying Japspeed or not". "The £280 is not one of our traders or retailers"... I replied "yes but it's your address pretty much (post code practically the same) the same in Manchester". They replied "I can confirm it is not one of ours and it will not be covered under warrantee". I replied.. " so you are not aware of this other distributor that is pretty much on your door step, don't worry about it I'll take my business else where"

To that end I studied the two adverts, pretty much like for like, even the pictures. So I took the gamble and ordered the cheaper kit. It's landed.... Looks legit to me

I had the same odd issue with their hose kits on eBay. I got an entire bugeye 2002 engine hose kit for £60 delivered. All japspeed, all legit and all of good quality.

My mate goes to by the same item and messages them for the item number as I could no longer find it, they email him back with the same kit but at £150.

I think they've set up another account for clearance items but I'm not sure, also why bother? Seems a bit of a weird situation and a lot of work.

It's definitely the same building sending the items from different accounts.

I doubt they will Peter. All manufacturers do it. It's easier to make the same kit everything but market it different than make different kits. They can mass produce it this way, but don't lie about it!!

They know that people are selling similar kits cheaper than the "official japspeed" prices, so they need to somehow compete with this (i.e. the 2fast2cool account), without sullying their "branded" items for those purchaser that like paying over the odds because it's "genuine japspeed, innit" (rolleyes...).

Have fitted a Japspeed in the past, I think they are good for the £££. Will do the job although there is better or there if you are prepared to pay north off x4 what I've paid.

It should be a simple fit, however I'm running an aftermarket CAI so it may require a little fettling to fit around the OS inner wing. The supplied CAI that comes with the kit is pretty substandard (filter is cheap) so this is the only challenge. I'll also be looking to get the pipes heat wrapped at some point too.

Must be more to it than that if both accounts are using the same vat number though.

Absolutely, they know what the score is, and if they didn't would they let a business that is registered with 400 meters of their address, selling goods identical, and in Japspeed boxes continue without taking action, utter bollox.

I'll keep you posted on the response, if I get one....

No response on my latest mail, so that would suggest deception!

I am not bothered in the slightest that they offer the same part unbranded at 75% of the original price, I fully understand that. the market is tough and all businesses need to be savvy to keep ahead of the competition - albeit I received a Japspeed branded kit!

However when an enthusiast who has been on these sorts of forums for years asks questions behind closed doors to be lied too, totally unacceptable! I just don't like being lied too.

Anyway on a positive note, the car is being dropped off today, FMIC, FPR to support the 800 injectors, 4 port, Resonator to calm down the Hayward & Scott exhaust, and mapping, maybe meth if there is scope.

The power and deliver currently from the twin scroll 321 is great, and the FMIC will help keep temps down during track action, but thought I might as well go for more boost whilst at it.... Doubt it will achieve 500 safely but one can only hope

Robert.

hello mate long time!

So I ended up having a few beers and ordering it; funnily enough just the same as you what arrived is from the same address as Japspeed even though the Gravity Performance name is registered elsewhere.

Good result there as well mate; what’s the spec?
Twin scroll 321V?

Hiya buddy,

I just think it is a strange thing to do, and denying it probably has the reverse affect of what they desire. My guess is they have an agreement not to sell direct to the public so that the traders they supply are not undercut, then they have a separate entity selling on their behalf - but the same vat number

Anyway, I don't mean any harm to JapSpeed so I'll delete this thread in good time.

I'm running a closed deck 2.5 with a twin scroll MD321V as you mention, I was selling the car but due to the extreme amount of time wasters I have changed my plans. I'm picking it up today where its had new BC Coilovers, new Ksports, new Whitleines goodies and some other bits.. Croft here I come Monday

Rob
