hi, i am interested in a cheap subaru although not sure if this is possible considering the age of the cars now that even bad examples may have inflated costs.
if possible for 3 grand or under. i don't care about bodywork, even rust, but the mechanics must be half decent, and the handling is the most important thing. as long as it handles good, i would be willing to excuse a lot.
always liked WRXs. good honest car. i want something i can throw around, park it anywhere and not fear getting dinged up. though WRXs seem quite rare actually.
what do you think? what is the availability like of what i am asking for? am i dreaming?
why would you want something with good bodywork but bad mechanicals? seems like mutton dressed as lamb.
i am not caring about it looking shabby. right now where i park i am CONSTANTLY paranoid (for good reason) about getting my car dinged up. it is a matter of when, not if. and parking somewhere else is not an option. so if the car already had bad bodywork that would be a major weight lifted off my shoulders and keep the price down as i don't want to pay a lot.
i could also live with rattles/creaking etc (as long as it wasn't indicative of a serious issue)
not even too fussed about power. i just want a good handling fun cheap AWD workhorse.
Much easier to put right the mechanical side for things than rotten, sills/subframes/strut towers/wheel arches ect.ect
WRX on Ebay now with a noisy a gearbox,.......... starting price £500
like i said i wouldn't want to put the bodywork right as it's getting bashed anyway. that would defeat the whole purpose of this. rotten frames etc is a different story.
i checked on pistonheads and the cheapest car is above 3k already. i suppose ebay then?
something that can be scrapped or sold off for breaking once i've run it into the ground after a number of years.
Ah well if you are nor bothered about rusty arches, rotten turrets and the usual rotten end sills as you will scrap the car then yeah, something that starts stops and goes is easily affordable.
Sign up to the facebook groups, just seen a wrx for £1500 with rust issues, a friend is selling his wagon for £1700 etc

I've always looked after the car as best as I can. Always warmed up and cooled down properly, oil changed religiously every 3,000 miles (next is due at 136,800) spark plugs changed end of 2017, cambelt was done at the end of 2015, has a full year MOT.

The car has covered less than 3000 miles on an engine rebuilt by Kamikaze Racing.
There is some lacquer peel on the carbon spoiler and slight rust over the arches.

They rust from the inside out. So if you see exterior rust then you can be damn sure that there is worst corrosion that you cannot see. Which means there is a high chance it will be an MoT failure or a potential death trap. Fixing corrosion is not cheap (unless you can do it yourself). Dented panels, who cares as you say.
Fixing mechanical issues (that don't involve stripping engines) are mostly easy enough DIY and you can pick up cheap parts secondhand.
Decent sub £3k do come up, you'll just need a little patience. Or consider a Forester XT if you just wanted a cheap hack/workhorse.
