whats the best way to line them up on the doors and fit them?
do i stick it just to the indented line on the doors and use that as the guide?
or do you fit them a few mm below that indented line for a better effect??????
anyone got any pix of there car with them on???
tnx

I'm not going to humiliate myself with what happened to mine ! Basically it is quite easy, a few (obvious retrospectively) pointers though.
- Clean paint underneath just to get a good adhesion
-Fit just below the indented line, just a few mm as you suggest and use the indent to get them level. It is slightly hard to call, not much below, but you don't want the top edge hanging over the indent.
-Get the strips central on each body pannel because if an end gets too close to the edge, the doors don't open properly.
-The long ones are quite floppy (ooh err) so a second pair of hands to support one end as you line up and press down from the other end helps.
-If anything goes **** up the sticky strips are very resiliant. You can pull them off and restick them a few times without harming the paint or pulling the sticky stuff off the strip. It resicks good as new. If a whole one goes on wonky and you've pressed it down hard then a hair dryer loosens the glue.
-Scan the members gallery for a few pics. I did have a good link but the guys page seems to be down at the mo.
It is not difficult, I was just a spasmoid when I did mine

got the car back from the paint and panel shop an hour ago where they'd just fitted black side protectors with a metal silver strip - which matches the silver-coloured alloy wheels and black body skirting; they were fitted a couple of mills below the indent and look good (sorry, no photos as yet ...)

How much were they? did you get the cheaper Mondeo ones from Ford?

Mr Lewis
is this a serious post from you with out a 'put down' ??? lol
they do the doors and that little bit of back body work as well (i'm quite sure)
Mikey Help me out here......
i'm payin £47 for the black rubber strips (trade)
not having them painted!!!! whats the point?
there to stop my paint work getting more KNOCKS if they were painted they would get banged by other peeps and chip off!!!
Mikey
i'll ring you Saturday, my m8's bringin um round tonight, i'll fit them tomorrow.
if i fit them a few mm below the indent line, it will cover the 9" scrap from that WHEEL BARROW!! that would have cost me £167 to hav filled and sprayed up!!! big saving mi finks!

They're a doodle to diy, I was also told to warm the adhesive up slightly first with a hairdryer as this helps if its a cold day.
Neighbours thought I looked a bit odd crouching down on the drive blow drying some rubber !!

pslewis - the trim starts at the edge of the rear door and goes thru to about within an inch of the front wheel arch (ie beyond the front door).
and yes - the silver trim is another good reason not to have gold alloy wheels
regards

Easy way to do it:
1.Put strips on a radiator till they go floppy.
2.Use a heat gun (hairdryer will not put enough heat in)CAREFULLY on the panel to warm bodywork through.
3. Using two people lightly attach to (thoroughly dewaxed and degreased) bodywork. When you are happy press on hard and hey presto not more nightmares from the montego parked an inch away from your car in Sainsburys.
As an aside since mine have been on (over 6 months)I have only picked up one dent, so they are definately worth it.
