Question

Which dealers are doing the best deals on MY01 WRXs?
Cheers,
Mark.

Not UK franchised ones!

Car Supermarkets are reported to have prices around £18k, so it may be worth checking these?

Import one yourself from Holland (or elsewhere on continental Europe) and save around £4,000. I did this in November 1999 and would really recommend the garage that I used in Holland - Gertjan van der Velde, tel +31 186 661556, or email gj_velde@wish.net

Or use an import agent, such as Gibsons of Brock (http://www.4wdcars.co.uk - never used 'em, but they give a 3 yeear warranty) or Iain at Litchfield Imports - see their banner advert. Iain seems to be universally loved by all who deal with him, as does Gertjan for that matter.

If you are interested in importing, don't be put off by tales of paperwork and hassle. There's one form to fill out!

Drop me a line if you want any more help.

Nick.

I am probably going to buy one in a couple of months. The supermarket/import prices look good @ around £18k but I am a bit concerned about warranty and servicing. Will the UK dealers give you any problems with imports?

You won't get any problems with UK dealers, as they've all been instructed to work on EU imports. There's actually legislation which states that goods sourced from any point in the EU cannot be discriminated against on grounds of their source - wonderful!

Do get a quote direct from the garage, as it isn't hassle and you could combine a trip to Amsterdam into the deal

Check the spec as well though - Snoop4cars price of £16,000 doesnt include A/C (extra £1,045), cd (£81) and Alarm/Immob (£310) - a still very good £17,500 but not much difference to supermarkets.

I'm getting a full UK spec WRX (inc. cat 1 alarm, locking wheel nuts, mats, 3 year warranty, 3 year roadside assist) from Gibsons of Brock for a shade over £18k. This is for the car delivered to their dealership. 6 month wait is a downer but you pays your money...

Has anyone considered a jap spec wrx 247bhp instead of an EU 215bhp import? Ive seen them advertised at similar prices. I guess the extra 30+ bhp and torque will make a difference, but will dealers be ok with non EU imports and will the resale value subsequently be less?
Also is the setup on the jap spec as suitable for our roads etc?

Mark,

You'll get a better package with a japanese spec WRX, but you'll pay more a year for insurance and you will not get it serviced at any UK franchised dealer (or at least, not officially). Do check the insurance - it was over double for me - and do consider the resale value. It would appear that they've become less easy to sell recently?

Exclamation

TRIGGER - i've checked snoop4 again and it DOES include aircon and radio/cd. My quote came to 16k even when adding the 310 for a cat1 alarm.

16k from Belgium including all uk spec items including air con cd-player etc.
Only thing missing is the cat 1 alarm.
It will have a 3 year warranty.

Will have the sports seats instead of the airbag seats (the sports seats are cheaper abroad but only a no-cost option here!!)

Even includes delivery to my door.

Went direct to the dealer, don't waste your time with brokers, they charge you for doing virtually nothing.

BT52, Nathan,
The Belgium import idea looks good esp if save £5k. My problem is my company car goes back in Sept and I cant afford to be without a car so I cant wait 5 months. I also dont really want one much before sept as I will have to fund the payments out of my own pocket (Company allowance from Sept). So Im hoping to risk it and buy something immediately available late august/early sept(supermarket etc). Hope im not taking too much of a risk!!
