Owner fitted a K&N intake shortly before it popped.

Might not be the culprit but a good hook to hang the "rejected" stamp on the warranty claim.

There are more focus RS engines dying at the minute over any marque / this is just old news from a engine platform over 12 years old / I’d be slightly more worried about new technology in the ford camp where they can’t even mate head to block without heat distortion / but as this isn’t a ford site who cares ha ha

True in terms of acknowledgement
Not sure on there fix tho
Problem seems to be the same old story ( cycling ) hot to cold & vice versa ...
the EJ257 shares the same fate as with thousands of cycles the tolerance diminishes & the cast parts just can’t cope /
Think RS internals are fine it’s block & head distortion leading to head gasket failure

firstly sorry to hear about the engine failure , i’m amazed, 1 subaru have still not sorted clearly an on going issue and 2 accepted it is an issue as it was a half hearted acceptance of a problem , i heard golf r were getting issues too , hopefully it’s sorted quickly by subaru under warranty , only realistic way is forged to reduce the risk i wonder if the dealer could be persuaded in that direction even if they just do pistons gaskets and arp head bolts
