ok, so you insure scooby as garaged at night. In the small print it says the car must be in the garage from 10pm onwards or no cover. So you come home from work at 7pm park in the drive and go inside. Have your tea, watch stenders, **** the missus then at 10.02pm go outside to put the car in the garage to find its gone. In short is a car stolen when it is taken or when you discover its been taken. Anyone ask the insurance companies about this or have any experience?

Yeah but didn't you notice it was gone at 9:30 and spent 35minutes ringing your mate who has a key to check he wasn't playing a joke on you?

I think you would have to say it was stolen between 7 and 10:02...
but I'd be tempted to drop the 2... and say between 7 and 10...

With such a small amount of time of 2minutes, how do you know your watch isn't fast?

So has this happenned or are you just worried about it?

If it happens then break the lock on the garage and say it was in the garage? everyones a winner then...

Disclaimer : Some of above would be classed a fraud, undertake at your own risk...

If the worst comes to the worst you would have to bend the truth and say it was garaged before 10 and then claim that way

Hope it never happens to you, it isn't a good feeling at all

Best thing to do is tell the Ins Co up front that it will be garaged "most" of the time (and put it in writing). Otherwise, what if you stay at a friends for the night, what if you're away for a weekend at a hotel, what if you just don't put it away for a night ? The most the Ins Co can do is ask your neighbours (and yes, I've heard of this before) to confirm that you really do garage most of the time (should you have a claim).

Hope this helps, and hope you never have the problem !!!

I would change insurance companies if they started telling me when I can and can't use my car.

When I lived at home we had 4 cars, all policies said garaged - the guy that did our insurance lived round the corner so knew it was a single garage.

My car got broken in to outside the house (on the road and not even on the drive) and had no problems claiming for the damage.

Matt.

Checked my policy and it says "Normaly kept in a locked Garage".

For 3 weeks a year the car is with me on holiday.

Insure your car as parked on the road, then it doesn't matter what happens they have to pay out. I don't know how much you save by telling them it is on the drive or in the garage but whatever it is it's not as much as the amount you will lose if they don't pay out. What's the point of having fully comp insurance if the theft bit is disabled for half the night ?
