Anyone know the penalty for driving without a front number plate?
A friend of mine lost his and got a pull.
Thanx

Wink

If he genuinely lost it, then I would hope the Police would be sympathetic.

Could anyone honestly finish a journey and stake their life on their plate still being on the front of their car.

Ciao

While we're on the subject ... nearly every day I pass a 00MY DBM (?) with a stick on number plate mounted on on his bonnet - makes it look real mean with . So what's the legality of this? Anyone know?

Lunchie

P.S. Not seen the car recently - but may be it been replace by a P1 that I now see in the same area (Tolworth)

I don't have a front plate - I have a stick on number on the top of the front bumper, just in front of the intercooler/rad. It passed it's MOT like this last week.

As long as the font is legal and there is no attempt made to distort the registration i.e. make look like a word, it is OK. Have you noticed that new Jags and MG's etc are starting to put on a sticky plate on the front of the bonnet?

MOT rules are different to the road traffic act the MOT rules are you myst be able to read it from 25 meters and that the lettering are the length top to bottom.

Does not even have to be a number plate could be made of cardboard but as long as you can see it.

As for road traffic act much different case letters must be a certain size, must have a BS mark and lots of other things.

Thanx Bryn, thanx all.
I'll get him to follow Mrdata's advice and appeal to reason of the court.

Thanks
