Cool New here!

Evenin' all!
First of all I do apologise if I am posting this in the wrong section, but I couldn't see a new members area.

Formalities out of the way, I'm Max, from Berkshire. I currently drive a Toyota Starlet Glanza V, and am trying to work out if I can make the switch to an Impreza, insurance being the issue for me! (I'm only 20). I was wondering, are there any younger members on here that may be able to point me in the right direction of maybe who to try, or if I just need to try again on my 21st! From what I can work out a classic Turbo 2000 seems to be about the cheapest to insure so far coming in at £2800.
Subies run in my family, with both my dad and uncle having newage Impreza's, and I am itching to get into them too!

Thanks for reading!

Welcome. Sorry, I'm too old to answer the insurance question.

welcome to our site , £2800 is crazy for a car that is around the same value , my advice for you is to wait a few years more before getting into one .

I found classics to be even more expensive to insure than a newage. Give Adrian Flux a call - I'm 22 and they insured me on a modified blobeye WRX wagon for under a grand.

What declared mods?

Get some lube ready if you go to Adrian Flux. Search on here for some very interesting "after sales issues".
But your postcode, age of car and obviously your age (all the proven associated stats) are all major factors that tip the insurance upwards.
But as an oldie, having knowledge and experience I'll just step back.

Morning Max and welcome onboard.

Have you tried adding someone like your dad as a second driver to the quote ? This could potentially bring the premium down. Or perhaps try looking at quotes for a newage blobeye or bugeye.

I went with Performance Direct for my first Subaru (bugeye WRX wagon) but I was being stung by all insurers because it was my first Subaru, so be prepared for the initial hit.

If you can't get a quote for less than a grand, I would advise you to put your money aside and builds some funds for a newage and see what the options are when you're 21.

I know you've got an itch you want to scratch but in the grand scheme of things you're still a mere whipper-snapper and have plenty of years left in which to enjoy scooby ownership (assuming you're in good health). I wouldn't be pumping thousands into an insurance premium.

Hello and good luck! I believe Moley (user on here) is linked to an insurance company. Might be worth finding him and dropping him a PM.

Same moley/Keith Michaels. My mate paid £3500 for a Yaris for his first year, due to him living next to an accident black spot.

I think you will find Keith Michaels (Moley) struggle with younger drivers.

The benefit of getting old: Being able to insure the car I wanted when I was young.

Thanks for all the welcoming responses, I will try a bugeye!
Even if not, I hope you won't mind me hanging around trying to learn a thing or two for when I do eventually make the switch!
