Hi guys. I am relativity new to the site although i have been a member for a few years now and have been reading and learning behind the seen.
I really need some help in regards to retrofitting the Bugeye STI headlights into my 2001 Bugeye WRX. I bought some headlights yesterday and i would really love to be able to fit these.
Unfortunately all i have is the bare headlights so could someone tell me exactly what parts i need to fit these and a brief explanation of how this conversion is done. I would greatly appreciate any advice.
Will i need the original ballast for the headlights ? (seller conveniently couldn't find them)
Or can i just buy a decent HDI kit with ballasts and get this to work ? (what he told me)
Do i need the original complete loom from the bulk head ? (someone mentioned that i may need this)
Is there any other parts that i need to buy to get this to work ?
Anyone selling any parts that can aid me in this conversion ?
Any advice or guidance would be so much appreciated. I really want to be able to get these lights up and running but i guess i will have to sell them if this conversion is beyond me or is going to cost to much. Anyway thanks for reading this and i look forward to any replys.
Thanks for the reply guys very much appreciated. I think they are HID but i am not sure, they were removed from a 2001 WRX STI UK V7 Prodrive. One of the stamps on the headlights read this (Ichiko) 1685 which i believe are HID headlights ?????
These are the lights if anyone is able to tell from the picture
If possible can someone please advice if these are projectors or HIDs ? and what i will need to buy from the link that TECHNOPUG kindly posted in order for me to get these up and running. Do i need to try and get the wiring loom and ballasts from the original car ? (the seller is extremley difficult to get hold of so i hope i dont need these or there are other alternatives) Once again thank you to those who have kindly advised and i look forward to your replies.

Compare the rear units, also should have "HID" sticker.
Which ones do you have?
Thanks TECHNOPUG By the looks of the back of my headlight units i believe they are Projectors and not HIDs ??????, cant see any stickers or HID stamps. If they are just projectors are they going to be easier for me to fit ? Can or should i run them with a EXNON/HID kit or just run them without ? What do i need to buy and are they plug and play ? How much are the worth out of interest. Thanks a bunch mate.
You can physically fit HIDs to them but I believe that the projector lens are different and therefore they won't perform as intended. So I'd not advise that.
I'd contact Lightwerkz directly though, as I can't remember what my ''02 HIDs looked like with regards to the wiring.
Cant thank you enough mate for your advice, guidance and swift reply's . I guess the lights will work with the ballasts in my WRX or do i need to buy some different ones ?
Looks like i will actually get these fitted to my car after all, if it is just a simple as buying the harness from the link you provided and plugging them in ??? Im refurbishing them as we speak . and cant wait to get them up and running, they will look so much better than the standard WRX ones. Cheers dude.

Does this mean that they still could be HIDs lol ???
Just take a bulb out and compare it to Googled pics of halogen and HID bulbs.
They look like halogen. Without the connectors, you have quite a job in front of you...........
Why do i have quite a job in front of me mate ? i thought once i determine what lights they are it was a relativity easy job to fit ? Like TECHNOPUG said all i need is the harness from http://www.lightwerkz.net/index.php/...d-harness.html ?
Looks like a HID conversion kit to me. You'll need the ballasts and potentially some resistors to use them.
Personally, I'd contact the guy that you bought them from and ask them what's required to get them working. Tough to tell without knowing more detail.
Thanks for the reply. The seller is notoriously is hard to get hold of and i cant be arsed to keep chasing him up.
Now i think i just have WRX STI UK V7 projector headlights which previous owner added a HID kit just as you and another member has mentioned. All i have is the red/black wires coming out of the back of the headlights which i guess are the connectors from the HID kit that he used but i have no ballast to go with them.
So based on them just being projectors and not the HIDs, what is the easiest way to get these fitted to my WRX bugeye ? Buy a new HID kit that comes with ballasts and will this be plug and play?
What will i need to buy or do in order to run these without the HID kit should i decide not to go down this route? New connectors, bulbs etc ? Any links to parts i may have to buy will be very much appreciated.
I would be grateful if someone could please come along and put me out of my misery and advice me a little further so i can put this to bed lol.. Thanks in advance and a big thanks to those of you who have chipped in so far
Now that i know these are just the projector type headlights that has part of a HID kit fitted, what is my best option ? buy another HID kit ? will i need to the connecting harness from lightwerks ? if i run without the HID kit will my existing bulbs etc just plug in to the headlight units ? whatever option i choose do i still need the connecting harness ?
Sorry if the answer has already been given to me i have just got a little confused along the way in trying to find out if they were projector or HID. I really do appreciate the responses i have got so far i just need this last bit of information so i can buy what i need. If there is a UK source for the items i need to buy i would be vert grateful if someone could provide me with a link. Massive thanks in advance.

As far as I see these are headlights using HID for dipped beam (because of the large red cables) and halogen (HB3) for full beam. Jap STis ran this setup, but whether this is a UK headlight or a jap headlight I cant tell.
Thanks for the additional replies guys very much appreciated. I have spoken to Lightwerks and sent them pictures of my headlights and they confirmed that they are the halogen projector version which have an aftermarket HID kit fitted (but i have no ballasts).
They recommend a new HID kit with a custom harness, links to both items are below.
My questions now are, is there a UK source for a decent HID kit and harness ? If Lightwerks is the only place i can get the harness from, can some point me in the right direction for a decent 6000k HID kit from a UK source that has been tried and tested ?
My reasoning for the questions ? The UK source for either item could be a cheaper option, quicker shipping and less hassle for me should i need to contact the supplier/return/replace the items etc.
The HID kit and harness from Lightwerks shipped is $280/about £220 and i probably still have to pay taxes/import duty on top of that, is this reasonable ? I would be very grateful to hear some answers to my questions or options to purchase the items from the UK. Massive thanks in advance for any further replies
