Default Different classic double din surrounds

I've got two double din surrounds for a facelift classic dash but I've only just noticed that there is a slight difference between the two.
It's around the slot for the heater controls...one is trimmed off flush and the other has a deeper recess.
The one with the deeper recess fits properly around the controls in my car and the one thats trimmed flush doesn't.
My car is a v5 type r and the flush trimmed surround is from a v5 sti, were the heater controls different between these two cars?

The "standard" fit for JDM v5 WRX Sedan,Wagon and 2 door is

66065FC110/111

which "appears" to be the flush fitting version

For v6 it's the same although for some of the RA models they got 66065FC210 (same as 111 but finished in blue)

I wonder which model my stereo surround comes from then?
I've tried fitting the correct sti surround but it doesn't fit flush around the dials..I have a uk spec dash in as I built the car from a rolling shell so I'm guessing there is a slight difference between where the dials sit between uk and jdm models.

MY99/00 non turbo UK cars come with the deeper bezel

66065FC071 (or 66065FC021)

although it would need to be trimmed to take a double DIN unit and the switches moved elsewhere.

and also the P1

66065FC141

It must be a uk one then...I did check to see if it had been trimmed down but it didn't look like it had so must have been a really good job.

These are the fittings for the A/C and Radio in a JDM forester dash that has the same flush front panel. (same as 99/00 Impreza)

It may give you an idea as to what is actually different.

Dashboard, centre lower panel assembly and steering beam are the same for UK/JDM cars.
A number of the reinforcing brackets are different and the UK car gets a Heater Control Reinforcement bracket

JDM version looks alot better, i'm looking to get mine converted on my UK. I'm in the middle of relocating my switches from the centre console, just can't decode what surround to go for. I bought one off a JDM model but doesn't sit flush with the UK heater switches. So now looking for one to sit flush with my heater controls. Wish i could buy new, want matt black finish.

I haven't sorted mine yet....my car has a UK dash as it was built from a rolling shell so I just need to source a jdm dash section to fit the controls to.
Then I can fit the flush surround....I'm still not sure where the recessed double din surround originated from as I picked it up from EBay.

Same surround,I just needed to change the bracket that the heater controls fix to as the UK and jdm ones are different.

I'm still trying to work out which model the recessed surround is from.
