Default det advice

hello all , i had a full rebuild including race crank bearings on a 2.5 fsti , boost after build was about 1.1 and over time as the engine was run in the old style of running in , the engine builder checked for det it was fine at 1.1 bar , as engine ran in boost went up , i probably put 7 to 8 hundred miles on it , it felt a bit flat after 4.5 k revs plus , got the map checked and it was detting , pump and map tweaked it's all good now , should i be worried about engine damage there are no funny noises other than forged piston noise , or is the ecu good at protecting the engine , it was one det noise at those revs then ecu dumped fuel and no more det until you accelerate again , thoughts any one

I would have to say the Subaru knock control is pretty good, when it was detecting det it will have pulled the timing to protect the engine and that's why it will have felt a little flat.
I wouldn't worry personally as I would imaging all cars experience a small amount of det at some point due to different/bad fuel batch of even weather/heat/atmospheric conditions.
I always think it's a good idea to have a cable and software so you can datalog and check how the engine is running from time to time.

If you're concerned then the most likely thing to have been damaged are piston ring and head gasket, so a compression test for the former and sniff test for the latter.

hi i thought bearing damage was main effect , it appears ok , my concern is has damage been done that will crop up later on , slight rattle but that appears to be piston related as they are forged
