Pistons and Turbo
Hi team,
A local garage says my car is dead. I pick it up tomorrow and will find out more but despite boosting OK and sounding good the symptoms are:
Stalling at low revs
Burning loads of oil
White smoke from turbo area
Car is 2001 bugeye wagon wrx.
My questions are:
Does the diagnosis of pistons and turbo fit with the symptoms. It sounds about right to me.
What is this car worth in scrap?
Is there a way to get more for it? I live in Portsmouth and car has prodrive exhaust and sports cat, prodrive springs, kyb shocks, whiteline arbs and alk, brakes with new bolts sliders and godspped discs and pads and a andy forrest remap.
Cheers,
Dan

White smoke from the actual turbo itself? Could be a blown gasket on the turbo? Hard to say....Get some more info from the garage and update as could be one of a few things....?

a compression test would give you an idea if it's engine or turbo , stalling could even just be a maf sensor , burning oil could be turbo seals , difficult to diagnose with out seeing it or more info , it's a 2 litre lump so tend to be stronger , much mileage on it , is it smoking ?

I'd say definitely turbo oil seals/gasket. If it's just the turbo, then you can pick up a secondhand TD04 for £50. Failed pistons wouldn't effect the turbo and probably vice versa unless you've run the oil right down. I'd imagine the garage should be able to tell by running a compression test?
