UK 300 mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Very Nice!

Called in at a local dealer today and asked if he had any details on the UK 300. He went into his office and returned with 3 photos and a press release. Very nice package and price, especially the PPP price.

Mark,
I think i am having second thoughts and not sure that they have done enough to justify the price.
Lets hope the official release on the 23/5 reveals some held back information(but its not looking good). All i can see is 18"s,twin headlights, clear lenses and a pathetic rear spoiler. Alcantara buckets will be the best thing about it
no PIAA
P1 wheels (unlike unique RB5 items)
no quickshift
not a unique colour
and no difference between PPP and standard specs
Quite easy to spawn a lookalike if you ask me.
Having said that my order is still placed, lets hope theres more

Unique RB5 wheels? they where just old Prodrive/speedline stock that were just repainted That was the main reason I got a loaded MY99 PPP rather than an RB5 WR for the same money!!
I had heard it was a different colour ie not the same blue as std.
Seems to me it offers as good value as the RB5
Both get new interior trim
Both get new lights (PIAAs Vs Bugeye conversion)
Both get different wheels (though 18" OZ are better than grey out of date prodrive affairs )
Both get different paint job (if my info is correct)
RB5 got Quickshift
UK300 gets big spoiler and clear side indicators
Both cost about same (just under £25k) although UK300 is cheaper in *real* terms (2 yrs inflation - less of a premium over std car)
Seems pretty equal to me? if anything the UK300 offers better value?

Gary.
The RB5 wheels were specials for that car only (well, Mike Wood said so, so it must be true ). People on here have tried to buy some with no joy because they were a 'one off' and are only available as spares/ replacements on production of an RB5 vin. They were effectively Speedline ST2s with twin blades instead of single tho....

Correct me please if I am being really dumb, but Subaru are asking £3,500 extra (above the ukc price) for a car that has a few cosmetic differences incl new trim (wow) a big spoiler, bigger wheels and clear indicators ?? Oh, sorry forgot the better lights !
Considering the price you can import these cars from Europe at, it makes this price laughable. They might be specials but you could put this lot together for £1500 !
Now, if the ppp was included then we are getting nearer the mark. Otherwise a complete waste of money (imho).

They were just Speedlines Super Ts with the backs milled to fit the 4-pots If they were completely different, why do they look identical to the STs? I even know one person who has replaced a (rear) RB5 wheels with painted STs and you can't tell the difference

The UK300 is going to cost £24,995 and the PPP an additional £1600. Am I the only who thinks that £26,595 is a lot to pay for a tarted up Impreza when you can buy a standard Impreza for £17,995 from a car supermarket.
If you have £26,595 to spend then there are suddenly a lot of very desirable cars within your budget. You could get a Honda S2000 for £25,995 or an Audi TT 225 for that sort of money. Aren't import Evo VIIs going for £27K at the moment?? I would much rather have any of these 3 than the UK300

You are kind of missing the point here. UK car against import? Brand new dealer supplied against Car Supermarket 'nearly new', Ltd edition against std, and the TT and S2000 arn't really competitors, nor offer the performance that the PPP'd UK300 will, or should
Would you really rather have an S2000 or a TT? have you driven either? S2000 is a great car, but needs to be raped within an inch of its life to get even modest performance, and the TT is a wheezing squashed beetle that makes a justy look spacious, and handles like a spoon in yoghurt!
The £27k WR RB5 was considered to be the best and best VFM Impreza of all time, no reason why the UK300 shouldn't be comparable, or more probably, better!
What other uk main dealer supplied car will offer as much?
£3500 premuim for the std, £5100 for the PPP, doesn't sound too bad to me?
18" OZ wheels and tyres eat up £2000 before you start, add in the lamp conversion, alcantara interior, front and rear wings, and clear lenses and you will be way over £3500, and thats before you factor in limited status, (reported) special paint job and far higher residual value it will hold!
It does however make the P1 seem *very* bad VFM at £140 per extra bhp in a car with less exclusivity, smaller wheels, old shape.....

The wheels will not add a £2000 premium because the WRX comes with 17"s anyway. So the extra cost would be.
dearer rubber(about an extra £50 per corner than 17"s)
and a extra 1" in wheel size(another £100 tops
so all in i would say about £600 premium.
also Pete does lightweight 18"s for about £1800 all in.
Scott
P.S RB5 wheels are unique, they have a kink at the top of the spoke.

RB5 wheels are Speedline Chrono2's if i remember (also used on Citreon Saxo Kit cars) which is more like an ST2 in shape than a Superturismo and is exclusive to Subaru.
