Default Q plate....

Would you buy an import on a 'Q' plate which cannot be registered with a year plate due to someone ticking the wrong box during import, this obviously doesn't affect the car but does it affect the value due to people possible being put off by this.

How much cheaper than a "normal" plate car?

The way things are going re BIVA etc a Q plate may be a good thing. I believe it makes the reg bulletproof from what I've read on other forums. I know that Q plates were frowned upon years ago but how times change eh?

The car is currently sorn with no MOT,. Probably worth more in parts (sti ra gc8) but was thinking more about a resale later down the road, the Q thing doesn't really bother me but just wondered what people's angle on this is nowadays, I've not thought about the above comment by WRX 300 Scooby regarding the identity, a good point in the cars favour possibly.

Wouldn't a q plate make insurance premiums more expensive unless it's a kitcar??

I'd like to know what "tick in a wrong box" made it a Q plate...

RAF 1, I do know the owner of the car, he was not the importer, but a general conversation about it was that who ever imported it didn't fill the paperwork in correctly, possibly an individual rather than a company. Not sure about insurance, this was another question I asked but only the insurer will know that and I haven't got that far....

Silly question perhaps, but can you put a private plate on a previously "Q" plated car?

Thought the same Cookstar, but the general conversation seemed to be it stuck on a 'Q' although I haven't checked with DLVC, the post was more about the perception of owning a car on a 'Q'....

You cannot put a private plate on a Q plated vehicle, usually Q plated vehicles is the end result of no defining year of manufacture, or at least paperwork to verify, when put on an import.

It would certainly make me think twice about buying one, rightly or wrongly it would bother me.

Yes, could end up a 'white elephant' with a very small customer base to sell on to, more suited as a track car, which is mainly my possible interest although the car is not officially for sale, just a conversation I had with the owner should it come available.

I reckon it would be higher for the same reason nortonscooby has said above
q plate would be given to a car if identity of car was cloned or stolen then went back on road legit
It put me off buying a q plate back in the days though but imported ticking wrong box is the first I've ever heard of an import being put on a q to be honest but hey we learn something new everyday

In general it is very difficult to insure a car on a Q plate
