Stone Chips

Both our STi7's don't have any (nor did our previous four Imprezas).
Do you follow other cars closely?
(this question crops up regularly, normally under the heading of "Subarus have crap paintwork" or similar....)

Have to agree with Dave T-S, since I changed my driving style and stopped driving close I have not picked up a single new chip in 2 months Every previous car I have bought has chipped easily, so I don't think Subaru's are alone, in fact the worse car I had for chipping was a 205 GTI.

Funnily enough, I've just drafted a letter to my dealer complaining about stone chips on a STI7. I do not tailgate, I have done £3.5k and I am getting chips in the most weird of places.
I wouldn't care but I paid £250 extra to have the paintwork "diamond brited"

Got a few chips on the MY02 bonnet, but not really any more than other cars we've had in the past. And there's no need to drive that close to other cars - after all, when there's a decent straight, you can nip past them anyway ;0)

Thats true Harry, but be careful not to get too close as you overtake (road debris flying up from the car in fronts wheels)
I believe heavy lorries are a real cause of major stone chips as their shear weight displaces a lot of road debris in both directions .
I think stone chips are a fact of life on our roads. Just think of them as battle scars

I can't tell you - it's a secret

Paint coatings are a total waste of money as far as stone chips are concerned. For a test, coat your windows, then fire an airgun pellet at it (probably similar impact to a stone thrown up by another vehicle) - will it stop the window shattering........
BTW, don't try this at home really
