I am looking at buying an Impreza now, there are a few Mcrae replicas around for between 10 - 12k, are they a good buy for the money ?

For that sort of money you could get a genuine McRae if you look hard enough.

I got Number 53, with one owner, FSH and 51,000 miles for £9500, £12k seems alot unless they're newer with less miles.

Sad to say mine isn't as pristine as those pictured, I'm working on it though!

I know someone that owned Colin McRae's McRae!

He had a certificate that cam e with the car to prove it.

Apparantly there are photos of Colin in it out there somewhere.

Can't remember the number of it (7?).

Anyway he sold it to another one of my mates - who completly 'wragged' it last I heard.

I guess my question was, are the Mcrae's worth the extra over a standard one, or should I just look for a newer standard turbo for similar money ?

I had one - my first Scoob. Sold it a few years ago and then saw it in Birmingham city centre a couple of weeks ago!
Are you out there?

Watford,

Mcrae's are worth the extra over a standard one as they will always be a limited model and some will get written off. As to looking for a newer standard turbo for similar money, I think I would have a price in mind and go shopping. If I found a good mcrae for the same price as a later model but the mcrae was better then I would go to a mcrae. D Hill's example is a corker and thats the kinda car you need to look for. A good, possible lightly modify well looked after car.

IMHO

Dave.

The McRae is worth more than the standard MY95/MY96 due to its extra's especially the seats and the wheels.

The big question is for similar money you could have a MY97 with front end change, interior upgrade, and more user friendly turbo delivery.

Not many scoobs are running about on 15" rims now so that really isn't an issue but the standard MY95/MY96 seats are crap.
My own opinion would be to get a McRae that has been kept visually standard inside and out with sensible engine mods, should retain its value better than most.

Lee
