well noticed my 02 sti forester has the black tmic seems tired and old

tbh thought this would already have the shiney silver sti tmic

so will this just be a straight swap to fit etc?

do not really want to mess with the engine but feel need to upgrade this

any ideaS?

 

Are you fitting a Classic STi silver intercooler or a Newage WRX Intercooler?

The Classic is straight fit, Newage requires extra DV and bracket work.

 

Pretty straight forward to for the newage sti and much more of a benefit over the classic... I've done this on my forester and there's a good guide to follow on here if you search..

You'll need to change the intercooler under tray too to get the real benefit

I've cut and pasted this from my car thread...

I've finally got round to cleaning the intercooler. At a rough estimate I'd say 25% of the fins were blocked with dead bugs, stones, general road debris and bits of leylandii.
Taking it off was a doddle. Two bolts on the brackets either side, then undo the jubilee clips where the y pipe meets the turbo and the TMIC meets the throttle body, unplug the engine breather tubes and unbolt the re-circulation valve, but leave the pipes attached to the valves.
I left the re-circ valve on the car and re-fitted with a new gasket when I'd finished.



Once off I used a hose and pressure washer to try to wash through all the debris blocking it. I also sloshed a cup full of petrol in to get rid of any oil residue inside.
When I had finished with the hose I liberally sprayed it with carb cleaner, and used a toothpick to straighten any bent fins and pick out any remaining rubbish.




Much cleaner.

Thankfully there was very little oil inside.
