My car is turning over but not starting. To cut a long story short, the car is on axel stands on all four corners as I changed the brake fluid, I wanted to do an oil change at the same time and tried to start the car to warm the oil.

However on the first try there were very strange noises, like engine knock, I then realised the car was in gear, the neigbours brats were in and out of my car while their dad was chatting with me.

Put the car back in neutral, engine is turning over but not starting. There is a 1/4 tank of petrol, the battery has also recently been recharged (digital display on charger showed 90% full). The terminals on the battery are tight.

Can anybody help?

 

if engine is turning over then your starter motor is fine, I'd be looking for other reason why it don't want to start.
