Default 2005 Blobeye cambelt change cost?

Looking at a 2005 Blobeye Impreza WRX, can someone tell me the approximate cost of replacing the cambelt?

Full dealer service history but it's got to be done within the next 12 months.

Thanks.

My Impreza cost £600 at the main dealers a month back.

Just about to have my Forester done too this week. Great.

Thanks for the info. I've done a few timing belts on inline fours and i'm a qualified motorcycle mechanic so is it something I could do myself?

Price for a Continental timing belt kit from Euro Car Parts is £285 so if I needed one of these i'd be interested in doing the job myself:

http://www.eurocarparts.com/timing-belt-kit

Like I said is this something a competent DIY mechanic could do on the Subaru engine? Or do you need some special tool that is unrealistically expensive?

I'd always go genuine Subaru parts for something as critical as a timing belt. Gates belts are supposed to be very good and if I had to I'd certainly have this kit over the continental version.

I'm sure it's a job you can do at home. You'll probably need the correct cam locking tool, but otherwise it's possible. It can be done with the radiator still fitted but is much easier to remove it.

Gates belts are OE fitment on some Ducatis and they have a good reputation but fair comment about buying genuine parts, would be interesting to know their failure rate per x number of fitments in comparison to stock.

Once again thanks for the advice

Gates or dayco are every bit as good as a subaru belt but a fraction of the price. Its easy to do if you know anything about cars. One of the easiest belts to do.

Done mine twice, if you're handy with spanners which it sounds like you are it's a pretty easy job. Budget in a coolant change at the same time if you're doing the pump obviously, and take the Rad out as it gives you loads more room to work.

Cheers chaps, all sounds good. I've used Dayco belts before on Zetecs and stuff like that in the past with no problems so i'd be happy to use one of those too.

ScottyPPP, are there any Subaru groups in the Hants/Dorset area you know of?

Nothing wrong with gates belts really good quality and as above most manufacturers belts are made by them, I'm 99% sure they make the cosworth belt too.

I paid £180 for full cambelt kit from icp, including water pump. Then garage charge £150 in labour. Job done.

AS Performance have got a great deal on cambelt kits at the moment - look in the trader announcements section.

I'm pretty sure that it's been said on here that Gates make most timing belts, they just have different names printed on them and some like the Cosworth ones are just made from different materials.

But there's no major rush as Subarus aren't known for chewing through timing belts.

I was quoted 435 a couple weeks ago, for full timing belt kit inc tensioner, pulleys, water pump, thermostat and coolant flush.
Ended up getting it done on warranty for free!
