And the heated rear window button.
I know cos the bulb blew, Subaru wanted £75.00 for a new switch and I've just come back from the local Nissen dealer who was as much use a knife in a jelly eating competition.
Just trying to order the lamps from RS now.

The older turbo (TD05) is a mitubishi item too I believe!
Interesting you say the rear wiper motor as mine has gone and Subaru want a rip off £150... might have a look at the part number etc..

a mate of mine paid £1200 for a new alternator for his 348TS from a ferrari dealer, when we got a look at it,it was a fiat one!!!!!!!!
i will put up with nissan and mmc parts as long as they don`t start putting fiat bits on
no wonder ferrari`s are unreliable

On my 2000 2.5 RS (US Model), the 2dr has plastic supports for the shoulder belt that actually says "Nissan" on them. Also the power window switches and the cruise control stalk on the steering wheel is the same as on my friend's late '90s Mitsubishi Eclipse. Haven't found any GM parts yet though.

I've also heard thet the rear differential is the same as the 240Z Nissan, maybe the 510 also?

the 20% holding nissan used to have in subaru - meant that FHI could dip into their parts bin - ever compare the interior of a nissan almeira with a 97/98 impreza?
still , since GM/suzuki bought out the nissan stake, expect a raft of GM parts to be used instead
this is no bad thing of course, as FHI readily state that the costs of developing new models would be crippling otherwise - it means that the engineers can spend their efforts + resources on the bits that matter too :-)
I personally find it more galling when you spend a sh*t load of cash on posh hifi and open the case to reveal 'budget' philips componentry inside - but I digress ;-)

Would it be a good idea for those of us who don't like parting with money or have no local Subaru dealer to generate a list of alterative suppliers of Subaru lookalike parts?

Philips audio components aren't bad at all, they were the ones who invented the 'Bitstream' dac which is used by a lot of cd players.
After all, it was them & Sony who co-invented the CD.

Ferrari and Fiat have had very close ties in the past..
The Dino and the X1/9 believe it or not were designed by the same guy from Ferrari, I cannot even begin to try and spell his name.. very famous.. anyway they then had to make a decision on which would be fiats and which Ferrari's.. and therefore Ferrari Dino and Fiat X1/9 were born. I believe the names would have been the same but the cars swapped had they made the decision the otherway.
Obviously the Ferrari would be better build and perhaps not rust as badly.

My STI 3 & one of the Nissans use the same brake pads, ok so different cars use the same tyres etc but does this mean the basis of the caliper is the same. I think the model was a 300 something or other but not 100% certain of that.

FIAT own Ferrari, so it is no suprise to find a few components swapped between the two. As you say, it nice when the swop goes in your favour as it did when the Ferrari V6 went into a FIAT sports car and the Lancia (another FIAT company) Stratos, and the V8 went into the Lancia Thema.
Electrical components (such as alternators and wiper motors) are normally provided by external companies such as Lucas and Magnetti Marreli, and hence are found on many different makes of car.
