Default Using a key from a breaker?

Hi Everyone,

I have a problem I hope you can help with. When I took my car for a service the key died when the garage tried to put the car away for the night. Essentially the button did nothing. The key blade opened the door but the immobiliser prevented turning the engine over. The spare key worked fine.

Fast forward a few weeks and I know I need to get it sorted. I tried replacing the battery and also reprogramming the key. Nothing seemed to work.

I have just been quoted £200 by the dealer for the new key minus blade... Could I buy a key from a breaker and reprogram it for my Scooby. It is a 07 WRX with a single button fob.

The breakers may not sell them as they could sell the whole lot including locks but I thought it may be worth a try?

Am I barking up the wrong tree here?

if yours has a sigma alarm fitted with the keypad, i believe you can code the keys manually yourself using the keypad.
