Default Knocklink Xmas tree!!! 2.5.

Hi,I have a sti hatchback 2008.. Fitted a knocklink last night, all was good, max sensitivity drove home giving it some beans and only one green light illuminated.. Today drove it to a performance garage to get geometry done, now when I hit the loud pedal? Anything above 4k and it goes straight from one green to full lights even the red!!! Could it be I've just got a bad batch of vpower? (filled up last night).. Or has my helpful garage caused me a problem??.. Ps,left car with them in intelligent mode.. Came back to it in sports!!.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully they haven't ragged the ar*e off it on road test then.
Could be a poor batch of fuel if it's doing it since filling up but you wont be able to eliminate that until you run the fuel level down and refill.
Is it a standard engine ? If so, hopefully not ringland failure on Number 4 piston setting the knocklink off.

Yep,standard engine.. But was a new engine 6k ago from the previous owner..unfortunately standard build from subaru.. They definitely ragged it as they had changed it from soft intelligent mode :-(

Did you check your fuel level and mileage before you left it with them overnight??? Could they have filled the tank with crap cheap petrol after driving around a day???

No mate, sorry, didn't explain myself very well..I was sitting in reception whilst my car was being worked on this morning, and the mechanic who done the geometry took it for a test drive after. As said,it would definitely been spirited driving as he had no need to take it out of intelligent mode?

Doesn't sound good! I would take it to a reputable tuner to see if it's detting, unless you have some detcans you won't really know if your knocklink is accurate.

Thanks mate, will do Monday. It's not sounding rough, running bad,or suddenly using loads of oil.. Just knocklink activity is lively to say the least :-(.. Will contact the garage I wen to Monday..but saying 'has your mechanic ragged my car'??... Think I know the answer lol

Unfortunately cars don't always run rough or sound bad when they are detting their **** off.
Could be just your knocklink isn't set up correctly but it could be your car is detting?
Wouldn't bother asking if it's been ragged as like you say the answer will be NO even if it has.
Hope all is well mate

By the way a good spirited drive shouldn't harm the car to be honest, even a standard fresh build 2.5 should handle a good spirited drive

Thanks mate..your right,I've done my fair share of spirited driving in it.. It's just how near the red line they took it.. Sure it's not the setup of the unit as it was fine last night, and the outside temperature was almost exactly the same...fingers crossed, next batch of fuel should tell.

Have you checked the sensor to see if it's come loose hence reporting more knock ?

I find my knock link pretty accurate so if all is well setup wise of trust the knock link

In theory,q bit of spirited driving shouldn't have caused a problem... But it ain't right, and now my pride and joy ain't right!!,.. I know I haven't got a leg to stand on which is gutting..problem is as well? I'm a mechanic,so I do 90% of all work myself, just a lack of camber guages ment I had to take it elsewhere.

I think you mean bounced off the limiter from almost cold in 1st and 2nd,while giggling his knackers off because let's face it, that's what's going to happen, I bet he could barely keep a straight face when he gave back the keys.

Common to have filled with optimax etc but the petro station is on a fiddle smelly shotty fuel for the price of optimax.

I also not q fan on knock link or Defi gauges as inexperienced driver are now aware of potential issues of rather than "Actual" issues.

Or is my knocklink showing up the poor standard map on the sti?. Ps I'd rather resolve a potential problem than fix an expensive one.

I wonder how many people have them on the hatch sti.. Just wondering,as with so many Ringland failures. Is my knocklink just picking up one of the main reasons for they're failures?

Maybe , you could make some det cans and listen if there's knock when the lights get lit etc , Amber usually means it's beginning but I find red only means actual knock , well , I don't hear knock with detcans at Amber but when it hit red when I was napping my car , it coincided with det occuring

I used this guide and the same hearing aid to make mine, they work very well.
http://www.d-series.org/forums/diy-f...s/95756?page=1

Or you can go old school and use a decent pair of ear defenders with some rubber tubing and a small length of copper pipe attached to the end.

You could even make some cordless ones using a Bluetooth device.
There are many ways to make det cans,I'm sure you would even be able to rig your stethoscope up to listen for detonation.

As above , I went old school , no interference , garden hose into each side of ear defenders , little copper tube flattened at one end bolted to the engine and wala
