Need a second opinion
Hey yall
I've recently got a new sti , 2002 prodrive ,
And it's come with 18 inch rotar gtr's that are very wide ! 8 inch I think
Now it's running stretched tires which I think on a car with 350 horsepower is ridiculous so it's going in tomorrow for 4 new ones !
My problem is when I have someone in the back or if i boot it it scrapes on the back , it's got kyb shock absorbers and eibach lowering springs , I realise when I get the new tires on its probably going to scrape Moore as the wheels stick out about 10mm past the arches,
The easiest thing to do would be to get rid of the wheels I know this ,but if I was to get some good coilovers would it make a significant difference in the scraping ? Are coilovers much stiffer than kyb shocks ? I know a bit about coilovers but not kyb shocks - I guess there just the same as standard sti shocks ? I want to keep the wheels but eliminate the scraping
Any advice about what to do will be appreciated

Is it just catching on the arch lip?
I'm running eibach springs with standard shocks, 8j wheel and 225 tyres. I used to get a little rub when people were in the back so I had the arch lip professionally rolled and its cured the problem no more rubbing.

Don't take me as gospel, but I think it's if it sticks out more then an inch past the furthest part of the arch. Proper size tyres is only going to make that worse. Using coilovers to stop the scraping is going to mean a very hard ride. Personally I'd swap the wheels for something the correct fitment. It'll look better and handle better.

Yea mate it just catches from time to time , but with people in the back when I boot it its a constant scrape
It does only seem to be on one side tho so many a shock has gone or a spring ?

If the previous own was into the stretched look then might he have fitted spacers as well to emphasise the look? May be worth taking a wheel off for a look see

I may have worked it out , the bloke before me had them fit and on the invoice it says rotar gtr's, well the ones on my car aren't gtr's, so he must have swapped them with the rotar which are on it now , there's also a pic floating about of my car with gtr's on so these wheels need to be measured , how do you think the car would cope with 8.5 inch wide wheels on ? Seen some really nice ones but just want to be able to drive the bloody car properly 😂

My 8j with 225 were 95% of the time ok. If I had two people in the back and took a corner slightly quick it would rub slightly on the lip. Like I say tho I have had the lip slightly rolled and it is perfect. Bear in mind I have got eibach sprigs on aswell so lower than standard height and they are 18"s
