Default possible upgrades!! choices??

Hi all,

Well I currently have a JDM 06 type 20 and I'm really considering upping the power a touch, after seeing costs of it all etc. Not aiming for anything stupid as it will stay with the standard top mount. So I'll be aiming for around the 400's give or take.

The car is currently running 343/336

Current spec is all pretty much standard for the type 20

VF36 I believe
3" miltek with sports cat
440 injectors
panel filter

all the usual suspension mods and poly bushed.

As for what I use the car for its not a daily so normally its a run out on a weekend with the odd track day. I like the fact that its very responsive from low revs so would ideally want to keep it that way for its delivery of power. wouldn't want it being laggy.

So what is the best way for me to achieve around the 400 mark for the way i want it to drive?

I have been told that the VF36 runs out of puff at about 360 is this correct?

I have looked at all the different types of twin scroll turbos etc and in all honesty I'm lost so I turn to you guys for any advise and recommendations!!

Many thanks Greg

Injectors will be 550, not 440.

An aftermarket twinscroll turbo, front mount, 800cc injectors and decent map/ecu will see what you're aiming for. People have seen 380bhp on a vf36 with supporting mods but the quality of supporting mods play a big part. Your sports cat may also limit how far you can go with it.

My bad on the injectors, I know after all the work is done it would need a decent map but I definitely don't want to go front mount but I know this would then be pretty much maxing the top mount out as I think they max out at about 410-420.

As for turbo choices though I'm completely confused?? I would of thought not to go massive with it as that will make it laggy, as I would like it to be responsive low down in the revs simular to the VF36.

Would any impreza with a tmic not be restricted after a few good spirited runs, even if you hit the 400bhp you're looking for?

I think you'd do well to have a read of Shauns Jdm STI thread in the project section before you make any decisions.

I had a look in to he same with my jdm sti running a vf37 341/375

I'll be staying with a tmic, 800cc injectors, caik, LM420.... This should see very close to 400 and retain the lower down response

Cold air induction Greg although if I could stick with the panel filter I will... I like the oe standard look..

A fmic for me is a defo no no regardless of how much more bhp I could get. I'm sure the sti top mount is good for 400bhp anyway
