Default Rear shocks????

After some advice please all, I bought some second hand KYB ultra Sr shocks a few months ago and only had them fitted last week, the question I have should they be this noisey? It sounds like my rear shocks are knocking again . Could this be the case as I thought they were gas shocks? It's only the rear drivers side and it's doing my head in there is no noise at low speed just when you start picking up speed, or have I bought a dodgy shock or should I change both rears again for something different or is there another problem???

That`s the chance you take in buying a part secondhand that is notorious for its failure rate. If over 20 000 miles, there`s a good chance of it

are you 100% sure the original fault was the shock and not a worn bush ?

No not sure at all, So shall I try replacing the rear bushes now then to see if that cures the problem? Would a worn rear bush show on an mot? I just had my mot renewed and no advisories or anything to mention.

it didnt show up a knocking/worn shock either then ?

just thought that if you still have the same noise after changing parts that is may not be that part you changed that was faulty in the first place,
were the shocks a whole unit inc spring or did you retain your original top mount ?
these can knock.

Not sure how true this is but I was recently told by a Specialist before replacing my rear shock that my knocking noise from rear near side (on and off accelerator at slow speed) was actually slight play/wear in rear drive shaft splines to wheel hub !!

And the noise was still there after two new KYB rear shocks and roll bar bushes.

This was told to me when they inspected the car before I even booked them to do the work, However my old rear shock were totally shot and did need replacing

jack the car up so the wheel is unloaded/off the ground,
grab the wheel and try to lift it up and down vigorously, you are trying to replicate the movement of the suspension,
you are feeling/listening for the knock, so any little bits of movement that arent what your expecting in normal use,
you may have to whip the wheel & rear arb drop link off to make it easier,
shake and wiggle that wheel until you find the problem really,

Is there any members local to you that could help you ?

Try drop links, without nylock or loctite mine need torquing up every few months or they knock.

I have KYBs on my rear and they're silent, but they're an identical design to OEM so I guess with enough usage and mileage they'll "go again" at somepoint.
