Am I doing damage idling the scoob for 5 minutes from called startup? Being an old schooler with the good ol'e pushrod carbied V8's big, cams, etc, the instructions from the engine gurus were "Idle her for 5 'n she'll be right m8". Is this good or bad for the scoob?????

The school of Scooby thought on this is to drive OFF-BOOST (under 3000 RPM approx) until the OIL is up to temperature.
This can take 6-8 miles depending on conditions. Don't take any notice of your water temp gauge.
If you get an oil temp gauge you will know what I mean.

You can warm the engine up at stand still, but that doesn't warm up the other moving parts, the wheel bearings, the suspension components, the engine mounts, etc, which will wear quicker if not warmed up also by an easy drive.

Thanks for the info, people. I do take it easy for a few miles even after the 5 minute idle, but from the info it seems its just a waste of time idling for so long. Thanks again.

I don't think you'd be doing any harm, but driving the car gently for the first few miles would warm the engine and oil up faster.
The ECU must adjust the mixture to very rich for starting from cold (not good as it can wash oil from the cylinder walls I've heard).
The quicker the engine warms up, the better I reckon.
