The red "Ring" electric horns from Halfords (£15 ish) make a much better sound but are larger than the fitted ones so you'll have to do some moving stuff around.

Right,
Sexy agressive looking car ( aren't all scoobs ), being driven safely and sensibly around town on me way to work.
Beautiful Saturday morning, 2 lane approach to roundabout, going to turn off at 3 o'clock, pull up on right hand lane - correct?, I notice an old boy in a micra next to me, think nothing of it, nice space, incredibly slow pull away and cant believe my eyes when the micra kangaroos off heading straight for the roundabout cutting me up like a bad butcher.....we'll I'm not having that, peep peep peep(elongated), as I hit my horn, I swear the guy pi$$ed himself laughing and nearly lost control completely before taking the second exit ( 12 o'clock),as I sunk into my seat trying to hide from the embarrasingly weak and non descript noise from my feeble effort of a hooter, I came to the conclusion that the safest thing to do - in order to save future lives of 'Sunday' drivers (out on the wrong day) with a weak heart I have to change the tone, or alternatively blow everyone away at lights, junctions and roundabouts - which is O.K , but more likely to cause real danger.
so the point of this thread is this, I notice on my00, that there are 2 horns, which one (or both ) should I change, and what to, to make it a little more 'scoobyish'.
Rob.
p.s. anybody else had any similar bad horn/driver experience ( keep it clean...)

Yeh, there's NOTHING more embarrassing than venting your frustration by hammering the horn and hearing the, well, ahem, "sound"....
I think Maggie Simpson's horn has more ***** (Intro credits)....
Best thing to do is get down to Halfords and buy a replacement - costs abot £20 ish.
A few members have already done it.....

Any idea which one we should be looking at?
I know I don't want "colonel bogey" horns!!
but I assume they need to fit into the existing space/s?
Do you know if we change one or both?

On MY01 I also have two horns and they are pathetic
I intend replacing with a standard airhorn
ASAP
I assume you just disconnect the wires of the original and connect the air horn?

You're right, the horn is a joke.
It is the sort of sound you would expect Noddy's car to make, not a Scoob.
Cheers,
Tom
P.S. Our car is MY97. Are they all the same throughout the MY??

Couldnt stand the original horn - why a car such as an Impreza turbo has a horn that sounds like a moped is beyond me
So, did the best thing I could and fitted 2 air-horns from Halfords .... I still have ONE of the sad horns connected ... to use in delicate situations (the air horns are so loud and aggressive that someone may take it the wrong way!)
Simple job, thick wire from the battery to a relay and on to the air horns ... one of the original horns wires goes to switch the relay ... hid the horns just behind the front numberplate (NOTE:- screw the front plate on ... the horns blew mine off - TRUE!!)
The compressor sits very nicely in the cavity of the front bumper behind the numberplate but inside where it is dry and safe.
If you quickly hit the horn, the original horn sounds .. as the air needs time to get to the air horns the airs dont sound .. hold the horn and they ALL sound - LOVERLY sound
£20 I think - every inch a bargain!
