Default JDM's... assistance required

Hi Everyone,

I have just seen a really, really nice JDM 2.0 STI in white and I love it. However it does seem to be a "fractious" issue on the forums about the issues people encounter with JDMs.

Aside from potentially higher insurance and the need for better under car sealent, what, if anything are the issues (aside from converting KPH to MPH as well )

Cheers

Stu

You have to deal with rear wiper and electric folding mirror envy.

Where are you buying it from as there are some places you really need to avoid.
Also, JDM's are no where near as bad as people make them out to be, half the time its down to people having no idea what they have bought and making a right **** up of it with bad servicing and incorrect fuel type, most of the parts are the same for the 2ltr engines (sensors etc) and the servicing is slightly different (depends on the year/type of car you have v a UK car).

JDMS have no 'issues'. They are the best Subaru produce. Buying a good one, is a different matter, and the white one you are talking about comes from a bunch of crooks - I would walk away very quickly unless you want to get a full RAC check and warranty put on it.

Insurance is no higher, any car being imported should be undersealed anyway, and the speedo converted.

Night and day over a UK poverty spec car.

Service intervals I just do it the same as uk models .Make sure its undersealed if it has the plastic under trays under drivers and passengers foot well .Plus ask for fog light to be wired in light cluster mine is in number plate indent .Plus put up with the bleep noise when in reverse

Without doubt the most annoying issue is finding the right fuse!!

As above JDM envy is deep.
Would never chop my JDM in for a UK (after owning both).

Ditto those comments above. The insurance is a myth as well if you go to a specialist broker the premiums can be less!
I had two UK cars at the beginning of my Subaru journey (now on number 8) and would not go back to a UK car again. Even my MX-5 was an Eunos.

No this is that company that we all love to hate or else there is another company on the same street/estate in Dukinfield
If you are buying it, get it fully checked out by someone who knows JDM's.

Torque GT, Prodrift UK and Hurst Cars are worth a call. But travel for a good one.
