Damd steering wheel
I'm thinking of investing in a Damd steering wheel and have found one on japanparts for a reasonable price (even considering postage and imports) but does anyone know any better sites to import one on?
Thanks
Thanks

Why not get a decent job of a re-trim done?
I've just had my OE R35 wheel re-trimmed to this;
iPhone pics, so not the best but you get the idea!
The quality of the materials & stitching is outstanding. Even the rear of the wheel has been shown exemplary attention!

Yeah they won't avoid them for you but it comes in under 400 ,, this is my second one as I got a new scoob and the old one didn't fit so sold that one and imported another , and will do again if I need to as I think there worth the extra hassle as its the part of the car you use the most so it's needs to feel right lol

Looks like they have a sale on at the mo too, yours looks damn good! You done much else to the trim? The dials look good, are they standard?
Your re-trim does look really nice but I want the flat bottom on the wheel which isn't standard.
Yeah that's what I'm thinking, it is the thing you interact with the most! I do have a friend in Japan, wonder if there's any benefit in him buying and shipping it...

I recently ordered a spec c roof vent from them; at first glance it looked good, about £280 including postage. However, I then got stung for nearly another £60 when it arrived in the country for customs and "handling fees" - it's a total joke and most won't be aware, but according to the customs website they're entitled to charge you VAT for the cost of the item AND its postage (not sure how that works...)
When you take that into consideration and that if you buy from a UK supplier you can simply return it to them if you're not happy, I'd say buy from Sumo power, which is exactly what I did.
You pay a little more but then you don't have to worry about import duty or returns.
As the DAMD wheel isn't a cheap prospect to begin with I worked out the import duty would take it to virtually the same price Sumo charge.
Here's mine - any excuse for some pic whoring

You'll get stung for import tax if customs pick it up Rob.

I got 'stung' for import tax but it wasn't a massive amount. My S204 Dampers on the other hand.......
Anyway, the cars up for sale soon.

Awesome tutorial, will keep that hand for when mine arrives. Do you know if you can get steering wheel controls for audio that will work with aftermarket headunits? Ones that suit the wheel like the stock for later models

mine was a direct swap of the controls into the new Damd, not sure if you can custom fit any in if you haven't already got it there already.

FYI the NASIOC link above is a good guide for fitting the wheel, although be warned you may have to give the old wheel a bit of a pumelling to get it off.
And make sure you mark where the old one sits .
A simple alternative that's less likely to cause damage is to get a puller, which will allow you to work the wheel off the steering column - these are readily available on eBay for £10-15 for a cheap one.

and you can have your wheels tracked too if you need to level it up a bit more
