Default New sti ordered, upgrades?

Hey guys,

So ordered a new sti which is coming in July. Current bus is a BMW 7 series, so the scooby is quite a departure.

Ordered a lip kit from HT autos and having the Subaru dealer fit it for me and been thinking about other upgrades. I wasn't overly impressed with the exhaust note and was thinking of getting an upgrade, but have no idea where to begin. I don't want anything crazy, just something a little more throaty. Any recommendations, suppliers, etc. I have a baby and a wife, so I want something I can live with on a daily basis. My dealer says that they do not offer exhaust upgrades.

Also been reading about dump valves. I'd be into fitting one but worry about my warranty, I've also read conflicting views on them, saying the it makes the engine run a bit too rich, etc. I know it has pretty much zero in the way of performance enhancement, but it's all about the acoustics for me. What's the real story? Am I going to screw up my motor and invalidate my warranty?

Anything you'd recommend I do or don't do, please feel free to school my ***.

Tony G

Before people start taking the mick about dump valves and the usual crap.

The amount of problems new cars seem to have these days and the way Subaru have treated new customers in the past I would not risk fitting anything that will give them an excuse to void your warranty.... and I am fairly certain there is no way they would allow a VTA dump valve to be fitted...

Thought as much. Had nothing but bother with BMW warranty issues. Would an aftermarket exhaust do anything to a warranty? I would have thought its in the same category as tyres, brake pads and the like, all consumables. But I don't know

Been reading a few threads....wow! BVs are a heated topic! From what I've read, I'm steering clear.

My lip kit is probably chav enough for me anyways.

I think the general feeling is if you have one as standard , then keep it standard. Or, if you change it, keep it recirc. But its your car, and you can do what you like .If its brand new, your probably going to have to as is for warranty purposes.

Subaru have a range of tuning parts that dont void the warranty. They are called pro R.

My advice is, dont ruin a nice new car by bolting cheap tat on.
That includes the lip

The most important thing is not to void your warranty. Speak to the supplying dealer about exhaust options and what enhancements wouldn't cause a warranty issue.
And steer clear of dump valves, the standard one does the job just fine.

I'm surprised your dealership doesn't offer the Subaru sports exhaust, as I had mine supplied and fitted by my dealer. It also keeps the warranty intact.

See, this is what I was thinking. I asked about heated seats and was told that no, they didn't fit them, something to do with the recaro type seats. Yet I've seen the 2015 model with heated seats in the U.S.

Yes, if things go t1ts up re. a warranty claim at least you would have paperwork to have the dealer put it right? Maybe

Been there with BMW many times. Thanks for the advice, I think I might get the car as it is. Then get my local dealer to hook me up with an upgraded exhaust after a few weeks. That way, I can flog the stock exhaust for some cash no?

Leave it standard for the first 3yrs, consider yourself warned.

As above there are the Pro R parts and that's all I'd fit if you really need to.

I doubt you'd have anyone interested in the original back box and probably better off wrapping it up and sticking it in the garage so as to be able to return the car to standard come sale time as not everyone likes noisy cars.

I think the only upgrade I would pick would be an extended warranty!

I believe I read on the 2.5 failure thread (sticky) that warranty was rejected due to aftermarket exhausts.

Thanks for the advice guys. Much appreciated.

Think I'll hang back with the exhaust. Ain't worth it. The more I'm reading, the more I see that the EJ25 is a bit of a softie. I'll have a decent stereo put in and leave it at that. Surely that won't mess with my warranty!

upgrade to a M135or S3 LOL ( sorry had to say it )

Pioneer stereos go well in the Scoobies made a lot of difference to mine when i swapped them, speakers are not too bad in the Cars, and stereos easy to swap.

'Aftermarket' exhaust yes, but I have been assured that the Subaru 'sports exhaust' (as listed in the official Subaru accessories brochure) is a Subaru approved part/option and will NOT affect warranty.

It's the same with the 18" Imola alloys, the Alpine headunit and the rear camera I also have fitted to mine; all fitted from/by the dealer prior to collection and all not affecting warranty with Subaru in any way.

Spend an additional 2.5k getting it forged, never worry about engine failure again and add as many mods as you like ...

Hahaha,

sick of BMWs to be honest, the BMW warranty isn't much better either. A weather strip came loose from the door sill in my 7 series. It was hanging out the door. Phoned BMW and explained, booked in for a warranty repair. They refused to fix it because I had 'tampered' with it. My tampering was placing it inside the car rather than leaving it hanging outside the door for 2 weeks just asking to be pulled off.

Not a fan of Audi.

Like the look and vibe of the scooby. After reading all this, I'll be treating it well, not modding it. I'll see how the exhaust is when I get it and if I want more then I'll find out if I can get a Subaru Approved exhaust which won't screw my warranty, if I can then I will.

My only thing is that I'm intending on having parking sensors, reversing camera and a new head unit installed, all outside subaru. Will that hump my warranty?

Bit mental spending £30k on a motor only to have to spend an additional £2.5k to ensure it won't blow up though!
