2012 Hatch
Evening
I'm looking at getting a 2012 Sti Hatch for my daily, school run, dog in boot etc whilst still offer some fun and Subaru experience.
I've got a P1 but that is my Toy and want to keep it for the sunny days, shows and weekend blasts.
I have been looking at this car http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...true?logcode=p
Does anyone know it? Does the 2012 still suffer the same engine failure as the earlier hatches? Also is there away of protecting the engine from failing? Decent Map?
Any help would be great
Cheers
Jim

Hi Jimmy
I believe the MY11 engines (hatch & saloon) had an improved base map which solved many of the issues with the MY08 engines and the well documented ringland failures on cylinder 4 etc.
I see the one in the link is the standard map, Subaru did offer a 320 and 340 upgrade the 320 being an ECU and the 340 being ECU & exhaust. To my knowledge all three maps are actually sound, mine which is my daily drive was standard for 18 months then I opted for the 320 upgrade which has improved it no end
Obviously you don't know how it was driven or what fuel it was run on, but that's a risk you take with any car. I would hope anyone buying one of these from new would run it as specified. Also the dealer may have the full history for you to see.
As for protecting yourself from a failure, many will say forge it, but many/most MY11s are still running on standard internals.
I'm sure you'll be inundated with other comments and views!
Personally I love mine and I've stopped worrying about what might happen to it life is too short.
Good luck
Andrew

I've got a forged 330S (2009) and it's a great all rounder. Personally I wouldn't worry about the engine in a post 2011. They seem to have fixed the issues in the later cars. Go for it!

just been through the same sort of process and found the STi was quite harsh and a bit to hardcore for a daily drive (could be my age ).
in the end went for a WRX-S, low miles & standard (no track days planned)
saying that the car your looking at sure does look good!

that is my old hatch ...had it from new was sorry to see it go, mileage is genuine and there is a slight supermarket dent on the drivers side rear door . In the 3 years i had it i didnt have a single thing go wrong ,the wife used it every day to go to work so yeah it can be used as a daily runner .the wheels have a few scuffs unless they have been repaired . apart from that there isnt a mark on it .hope you buy it ,its a lovely car .also it was only ever run on v power ....

i leased the car through my company .. It was end of lease and shukers had it off lease company .. I replaced it with the 2015 sti ... Tyres are all good and front pads were replaced at last service which was about 7000 miles ago .. It also had a recall done about 12 months ago something about the timeing belt adjuster not set correctly at factory .. So had a new belt on 12 months ago apart from that no problems at all .. The only reason I got rid was end of lease ....most of the mileage is the mrs going to work and she didn't even know you could put it in sport sharp !!!!! So it hasn't been driven hard ... Hope you buy it 😀😀
