A bit of a marmite question
If you were in the market to buy a 2.5 STI would you be more likely to look for a car that had been forged or not?
Let's assume that 2ltr engines don't exist
AND the engine was built by a well known specialist

Although I voted hell yeah it's not as simple as yes or no..
Despite in another thread I do think a forged 2.5 is worth more.. A few grand more in fact..
It's ok to buy a standard 2.5 but the price must also reflect that it is standard.. If buying a forged 2.5 then it goes with out saying you MUST have receipts and it MUST be by a respected subaru specialist.. But on the other hand the price will also be more.

As long as it had the details of the forge build and the builder I would consider it. But again it would need to be a reputable builder, I might even give them a call and ask about it.
On the flip side buy standard and factor in the forge cost, know exactly who and what would go into it...
Depends on the car and circumstance really

Not that pointless I am interested in the result.
I have a car sitting here that has HG failure, I'm looking to spend 3k+ on the bottom end and a remap to 360bhp and enjoy the car for a couple of years.
However, I could spend a lot less and rebuild with race bearings ARP studs, cosworth gaskets, standard pistons/rods, leave it with PPP and still have some fun. (Nervously )
At some point I will want to sell the car, get the best price I can as quickly and easily as possible.
Hence the poll

In that case it's an easy answer... For ME.. I personally wouldn't never ever buy a half forged engine.. Either do it all or not bother. Even if just changing the HG or pistons.. I just don't see the point.

Well if the 2.0ltr didn't exist and the only options were 2.5 or forged 2.5 then it would be a he'll yeah as that would be only what we know at the time!!
Just a thought.

The Ditchmyster is right I'd want to build my own so I knew the quality of the build, eggs ent always eggs. One mans forged engine is another mans grenade.

My 2011 STi had engine repaired under warranty at 19k miles. I added forged Pistons at my cost £1000
I didn't have to but I felt money well spent

I WILL be looking at as a minimum
Pistons and rods as recommended by the builder
ACL bearings
Closed deck insert
ARP Studs
Water pump
Oil pump uprated
Cosworth gaskets
Car has PPP at the moment so sports cat and fuel pump done so I imagine a map to 360bhp isn't out of the question?
I will be going to wms-racing for the build

A PPP car does not have a sports cat, it has a centre decat but uses the oem standard down pipe, it won't do 360 fitted with that you need to change it, then, using the std turbo and assuming its a STi it should get you 360 suitably mapped using decent fuel
