Do I get the STI?
I have a 2010 hatch WRX PPP with the S body upgrades on it.....
seen a few blob STI pop up local garages and I just can't decide.
been offered 7.5k for my car trade in.... but jumping in a car 6 years older with more miles scares me....
I do about 25 miles of motorway driving a day so I average about 33 mpg in my hatch.... as it's just low boost 65 mpg driving.
I don't do lots of spirited driving but I have always preferred the saloon shape.... plus my car is not an STI and that's always bugged me.
Sigh. Decisions decisions

The high tax bracket is the bit that annoys me the most!
I know the hatch divides opinion but I think it's a good looking car.
will go and have a look at the blob today. But 70k miles (it does have at least 12 dealer stamps in its log book) feels pretty high.... They want 8.5k for it. My hatch has the same power and 35k
Black car appears pretty much standard apart from a BOV (which I would remove) and exhaust

Mileage isn't that high, to be honest the price it seems abit high for me, but saying that your buying from a dealer, so thats to be expected
As for the hatch, i just feel that was Subaru copping out, trying to make a car that appeals to everyone so they can save dosh.
I feel it cheapens the look of the Impreza, and didn't work so they went back to saloon format. So speaks for itself really
So rubbish engine, high tax, and marmite looks, what you waiting for

Going to go and look at it at lunch time today and see what I think of it.
The thing going in the hatch favour is the fact that it's got torque and I prefer that to reving

Well went and saw it.... body work needs some work round where mudflaps join but they will sort that. Will also so the timing belt....
but
comparing it to my PPP hatch, it felt a bit gutless in gear... much tighter to drive but no punch.
It also had the red intercooler pipe so may be a PPP car as well....
obviously not slow just expected more.
In gear power I think the hatch will take it.

No surprise to us WRX PPP owners.
TBH mate I think you'd be a fool to swap your hatch WRX with 35k on the clock for a Blob STI with 70k AND give them a grand Don't let the badge snobs get to you.
Your car is just as quick in the real world and it's a lot newer, lower miles and way more practical.
Old STI's aint all they're cracked up to be. For sure if your into modding, like coilovers and want 450bhp it's a better place to start 10yrs ago, but I'm really not so sure it's worth the premium these days, unless your into blue interiors and crap suspension.
I'd sooner spend the extra £4k+ on modding a WRX to be like new (Blob for Blob) especially after the STI has been thrashed by several owners over the course of 10yrs and 70k miles.
If your happy with the Hatch looks then I think your money would be better spent up-grading it rather than down grading to another car, maybe save a few more pennies and forge the engine or go for a remap which should help keep the dreaded ringland failure at bay for a while longer.
Better the dog you know.

I like the hatch just always been more of a fan of the saloon that's all.
Had been a while since I last do everything an STI and always remember them being quicker.but I think it's cause I was driving a slower everyday car at the time.
Now the gap between the new wrx and old STI is closet (I know that the STI is quicker etc.) But my hatch is more comfortable and probably better for overtaking.
no interest in modding to be honest would just keep the car as is

Don't be afraid to upset the nobbers and trolls on here, there are many advantages to owning a WRX PPP one of which is the ability to p!ss off STI owners.
Get yours remapped by one of the top mappers and you'll really p!ss them off.

I've got a blob Sti with 38k miles on the clock. My last few cars have been a bmw 335d remapped, a bmw m5 e60 with 500bhp, a scooby Sti hatch and a 2004 Evo 8 fq340 with only 5000 miles on the clock.
The car that's given me the most driving enjoyment of all of those is the blob scooby. Completely driver orientated, good looking, reasonable running costs and just a complete joy to drive.

Best trade I was offered was 8k from JCT but the blob widetrack was 10k with 70k and I don't think it's worth that. Offered my car and 1500 so that's 9500 but wouldn't accept

I definitely don't want this post to turn into a problem post. But I guess I did ask for opinions...
guess I will just have to sit and think it out.
thanks

I sold my WRX-S hatch last year purely because of the rubbish MPG (which comes as no surprise) and the £485 per year RFL. The car itself was faultless and as you mentioned in your post it is in some respects a better drive than the blob STI (which i have owned as well). OK it is in desperate need of a 6th cog and could quite easily handle it but thats just another mistake that Subaru made and the way that it got through the gears it had was quite impressive. Standard brakes are ok until you push them and then they fade quite badly and then theres the noise..or lack of it! Personally i didn't mind the looks to much and it certainly causes a few second looks mainly due to it rareness. £10K for a blob STI...not of my money i'm affraid - as good as they are its a lot of money for a 10 year old car and at 70K it will surely cost you money be it mechanically or bodywork.

The hatch STI is too much money unfortunately or I would probably have gone for that as can't put more money towards something so will probably have about 9k to get something.

IMO get a Jap spec Newage WRX if you're not bothered about going well over 350lbft.
A V-limited 2003 WRX would be an unreal purchase. IMO the best real-world Subaru Impreza ever made.
Don't worry about STI inferiority, it's only something that relates to Subaru forums, in the real world 99.9% of people don't know the difference or significance. Buy a used boot spoiler, vent, spats, fog covers and skirts to get the STI looks.
