Default rad probs

hi guys. cars a uk 2000 turbo. Its not overheating, blowing hot in the cabin but top of the rad is cold when running, but warms up when engines off. Water pump changed 2 years ago . Could it just need flushing through off the car , an air lock , or something else? Also, the cel cmes on intermittantly . are these connected or separate issues? cheers for any suggestions

The hoses have an inner and outer layer and can seperate. I have seen the inner section collapse and cause blockages. This may be a possible cause. Or the rad core may have a sediment build up.

Could be if it over heats.

You don't say what (other) mods you have which might lead to a CEL?

Try draining and refilling the system using the method on here, a quick search will turn it up. It's DEAD easy to airlock it refilling and almost impossible to clear it without draining once it IS airlocked.

Cheap ebay code reader should give you the fault code for the eml.
I changed my rad top hose but didn't refill the system properly and got air lock. Ran the car down the road and temp gauge rose higher than normal, causing the eml to come on. Fault code showed that I had overheated the pre cat O2 sensor.

Has your temp gauge read higher than normal?
