Need honest advice regarding engine
Hay guys/gals.
Ok second hand engine in car but when tried to start her she wouldn't and made like a pressure noise . Timing belt lined up but when checked again it jumped 3 teeth. Their was no knocking sound like valves being hit just the pressure. Could the jumping of the teeth cause valve problems or have we been lucky. They car didn't fire up was just turning over so wasn't running . Thanks guys .

Hi no this first attempt but made sure we put everything back as should. The guy we bought it off said it was off his own car and cause clutch went he decided to strip the car and sell cause more hassle than good.
We checked the belt and looked pretty recent like new no cracks or nothing . So made sure all marks liked up and they did . We tried to start her just to make sure the engine didn't knock like the old one but didn't start so when checked timing again it had jumped 3 teeth.

yeah and once the engine spins you ignore the marks on the belt. only the pulleys line up after that. make sure you used the line on the on the crank not the arrow. arrow at 90 degrees.

I forget how many times it is, but it's well over 100 turns by hand to get the belt to line up again. The only way to be sure is take it off and fit it again, properly.
YouTube is your friend.
Your falling into the trap of thinking Subaru Turbos are like "normal engines" and you can just pick one up and drop it in, sometimes you might get lucky, but mechanic or not, you really need to get to know these cars before jumping in at the deep end.
Research, research, research and I don't mean from the bloke down the road or pub.
