General advice
Just joined forum and don't know where to put this.
Going to look a impreza sport today on an 03 plate with 126k on the shell
Anything to look for?
Bottom end knock I know is a problem so shall be checking for that. It's had a new engine which was fitted with 84k on.
I'm sure this has been posted a million times but any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Hope you read this on time.
I am very new to Subarus, but general consensus is to check for any sort of noise that is 'unusual'. same with the gearbox no clunks or crunches. have a look under the oil filler cap and see if you got any gunk there, same with dip stick you should be able to judge when the oil has been changed.
Would also recommend shifting through the paperwork and asking when cam and clutch been changed as will save you some grief.
when stationary check for leaks and stuff, also check the ride hight and that none of the shocks are leaking or dropped, shaft gaters all around any leaks from rear diff . same when taking for test drive listen out for any knock from suspension. try to pull off in thrid, get engine warm up put some load on it as it will show any leaks after.
Brakes, check that they work, also visually if they are on the way out check the pads too.
Then oyu got your basics like all doors open no problem all of the windows go up and down (people tend to miss those)
bah really there are alot of basic stuff you can look out for, trust your gut if car dont feel right when driving etc then just walk away as there are plenty sports subarus to choose from or try to get a very good deal, dont afraid to haggle.
good luck and let us know how you get on!
oh amost forgot rust and corosion check those too

So went to look at it. Engine was started from cold and no knocks or bangs. It's a bit beat up and could do with some tlc. The bumper is pretty smashed up he says due to hitting a speed bump, is on coilovers.
Wheel bearings and anti roll bar drop links need replacing.
Also the casing behind the pulleys for alternator, psa is cracked. He has a spare engine is this a big job???
The engine management light was on and he's had it checked today and it was the egr value. He's going to get it rechecked today after cleaning and hopefully that will be off now.
There is slight corrosion on the sills but all seems solid.
Anyone got rough pricing for issues?

Hmm, Bearings and drop links are not the most expensive things in the world, unless the garage is doing them for you then the labour will crank the price up.
Changing engine if you have the right gear and some idea what you are doing then again not terrible but time consuming, like with anything if you have the tools, skills and time then nothing is too bad.
Same with the sill depending on corosion it may be an MOT failure next time it is due
Its almost impossible to give u a guestimate without having pictures or the rough price.
