Default help please

I was told the bottom end off my scooby has gone on my 2001 wrx bugeye. I started the other day just to check it had some charge in her because if immobiliser etc. However it started scratching really bad and did not run well at all. Been told by somebody it could be a belt tensioner causing the screaming sound and a loose pully causing the nocking sound. Is this true? Or has anyone cane across this before. Thanks

Knocking sound could be a worn cam belt tensioner or the front pulley loose/ keyway worn.
Worn big ends/failure is normally heard from cold and it takes a few seconds for the oil warning light to go out and also when the revs are brought up 2500rpm - you will hear a big end knock as you release the throttle from that rpm.

Hope it's nothing serious

Mick
