I was talking to somebody who has a 64 plate car and he said it drinks petrol like nobody's business.... after he fills it up he can actually see the petrol gauge going down if he is stuck in traffic etc

Subaru really do need to up their game on this, this is the claimed MPG for a similar powered 4x4 Audi S3:-

There's me thinking all Impreza's do that.

Thats the problem, Subaru Impreza's haven't moved on in the last 15 years, Audi S3, Golf GTi/R, Renault Meganne RS, Focus ST/RS, Astra VXR are all around the same price/or less and offer a better driving experience, and in some cases cheaper running costs, with better warranty.

Where do people think the WRX/STI should be at now?
More power, lighter and more agile? More efficient? Better looking? More luxurious? More reliable? Better warranty/after sales?
Some seem to want a refined M3 others seem to want a raw 90's spec retro STI.

Now they are trying to compete with Audi, BMW, trying to make the interior pretty/nice, with cruise control and that i-drive sh1te and bloody parking sensors.
I dont want parking sensors in my Impreza, I dont want to be reversing it in a bloody supermarket car park, I dont want to be messing with i-drive to get better mpg, and I dont need cruise control, I want to be blasting down a country lane having fun, and not messing with buttons inside the car!!

Thats what Impreza's where best at, Cheap no frills interior, Basic everything with a stonking engine for its time, and more important it went like the clappers with grip to match!!!

So basically we have:
From £28,500 Focus RS 30mpg 0-60 5.7secs 1,467kg
From £30,950 Audi S3 40mpg 0-60 5.0secs 1,395kg
From £29,000 WRX STI 27mpg 0-60 5.0secs 1,535kg
From £25,950 Renault Megane RS 34mpg 0-60 5.8secs 1,380kg
From £27,300 Astra VXR 34mpg 0-60 5.8secs 1,475kg
From £31,400 2012 Golf R 33mpg 0-60 5.5secs 1,445kg
TBH for the extra weight, which means extra production costs and performance restrictions, the pricing and performance doesn't look too bad for the STI, I still think it wins on the looks and sound stakes.

Its nice to have the extras even if you dont use them much. This one is far better than my old 2006 WRX STI type Uk which was remapped to 330BHP. I had that one for nearly 4 years. Last weekend it was doing 30MPG + in S# on the M1 when we were stuck in the 50mph averaging section between Northampton and junction 20. So it is much better than 17mpg which the old 2.0l did. It also handles better and drives far better than the old one. The only thing that lets it down is the £485 road tax but that's the governments fault not the cars fault.
Ive been driving/owned Impreza's since 2003(8 Impreza's in total) and when I sold my hawk STi in June, I had no intention of buying another Impreza, instead ive bought a german car that has 300bhp, 4wd and costs near the same as the new STi, and do 39mpg(manufacturer claim) and £180 a year road tax, the new STi has to many negatives for me, and I just could not warrant paying £30k for a car that is no better then the same model from 2001.
karloswrxsti I hope you enjoy your car, I dont want to seem like im bashing the new STi, but personally Im just disappointed with the new Subaru's in general over the years with dealers/warranty/2.5 engine problems etc, the new STi does look nice especially in white, but its just not for me!!!

Pretty sure the Audi S3 is quicker with the auto box, isnt there a thread on here with a guy who managed low 4 seconds 0-60 in his new S3, and mapped is in the 3s???

I also have a audi A6 Le mans quattro remapped to 295bhp which is cheaper to tax and more comfortable but it doesn't put a smile on your face every time you drive it like the WRX STI does. It also didn't come with 3 years home start and breakdown recovery like the WRX STi does. It also doesn't get the looks when you drive it like the STI does that's because it is a boring car like all the other common German cars are.

Everyone is getting the Golf GTD near us. I've been eyeing them up for years but now I kinda think the Audi A2 could be a decent project. After a remap 110bhp 200lbft from a 1.4 diesel! 70mpg! 0-60 9.6secs, ****iпg ugly though.

But going back to one of your previous post you could get a evo with big power and stripped out inside and good reliability and still no one would buy them. Then with the X they gave us a bit more and a auto box and now there gone.
I think the recipe doesn't work anymore, me and you may like the old ways but in a world of i phones etc with image being at the forefront Subaru are done with whatever they give us with the Sti.

There has been people getting 4.5 0-60 in the Golf R with DSG it was one of the leading car mags i think i read it in.

Most impressive but do you get the prestige? Should it be faster for what it is?

I personally think Subaru are missing a trick not bringing us the new wrx. The things that put me off the sti are the economy, cost of road tax, and the reliability scare of the 2.5.
The wrx has the direct injection 2 litre, economy is supposedly mid 30's. It also has far better emissions so cheaper car tax. I think they have around 265 brake and 6 speed box as well. Jap spec wrx s4 has nearly 300 brake but only available in auto.
They also look more subtle, I really think the daft sti rear spoiler has had its day.
