Default Power Steering issues

I have a 55 WRX and the power steering pump has started whining like an electric motor when started on a cold day and is lumpy i did have fluid and belts replaced back in the summer and the garage is now saying it probably needs a new power steering pump at £300

i have read on a couple of threads and i have seen a Youtube video showing the same issue and noise which suggest changing and 'O' Ring might cure this but no one appears to have done this and then said its worked

so has any one solved this issue on a blob eye?

I'd check the cooling bars first. They tend to rust and corode. Should be able to buy the off a braker for about £40.

If not but the pump off them. A lot cheaper than new.

If you're determined to fix I believe there's 2 or o rings in the unit and a couple of gaskets. There's a bolt inside the reservoir which needs to be undone to take it apart.

This video suggests that changing just one seal solves the issue?

Is it causing frothing of the oil, as well as noise ?, if so replacing that o ring on the plastic inlet fitting will cure it, use grease or similar to lubricate it before fitting the new o ring into the pump.
