Default Cheshire performance

Hi guys,

I've kept this off the boards the last few months but they've had their chance, so unfortunately here's some more bad feedback and I could do with any helpful advice you could offer.

6 months ago I bought an 04 impreza sti from these guys, little overpriced but I was happy with the place, staff and had faith if I was to have problems. Before leaving they replaced the front disks and pads as they were at the end of their life span. As soon as I got on the motorway to drive 100miles home I noticed a crunch dropping to 4th at any revs.....synchro, great. Breaks were binding but was told it would go before I was home, then I noticed the diff crunching when hammering through bends....

Got onto Cheshire performance next day and they wanted the car back, although they ensured me when buying that any warranty work would be done locally, they said they couldn't find anyone who would touch it locally...... after a week I gave in and dropped it back (breaks still binding too) they gave me a ****e courtesy car pug 307 1.4 derv, but it was better than nothing.

6 weeks (yes, for a simple synchro) of ringing nearly every day the synchro is replace with titanium, breaks fixed and they say their mechanic can't find fault with the diff (bollocks).

Power round a bend, diff crunches.....sod it I'll live with it and replace/upgrade myself. Few days later the breaks are screeching and have worn a huge gouge on both disks in the same area, their ruined. Must off been fitted badly or just pure tat. Then I'm giving it the beans and oh dear, 5th won't engage, 3rd seems to of moved over a little, somethin isn't right.

Back on the phone to Cheshire performance I just want my money back, they refused and said I must give them opportunity to repair again. Citizens advice tell me to send a recorded delivery letter stating I'm rejecting the car, Cheshire performance knew it was coming so refused to sign for it. So I was advised to take them to small claims court, but it's 400quid and the judge wants things to be settled outside of court where possible, unhappy about losing 400quid I give in and take the car back again....

It's been a further 9 (yes 9!) Weeks and I still have no car. I've asked for an upgrade and I'll pay the extra on top of what I payed for mine but they refused to talk a deal untill the find out the bill for my current car.......(as if they can base a deal on what it costs them to repair the faulty car they sold me?) In the end they offer me 1.5k less for what I payed for my car, after all the hassle, wasted tax/insurance and fuel driving there and back they don't even offer the original price I payed in return and want 7k on top for a Hawkeye they have up for 15k.

This was a few weeks ago and they've pissed about with my counter offers since then, 'I'll speak to the boss tomorrow' (I hear nothing for days) 'the boss is away till Friday' (they ignore my emails for days)

End of last week I got fed up of waiting for the boss to make his mind up, then suddenly my car is apparently repaired, cool I'll grab it Tuesday, but I get no reply until late Tuesday, they apologise and say it was stuck in outbox and the boss is away until Friday and they wanted to ask him if he will do the upgraded car at the price I want to pay (as if stalling me as we had already been through this last week) I reply saying does the boss not have a phone? I'll come tomorrow (today) and collect my car, if the boss wants to do a deal let me know before I set off. I hear nothing yet again so I emailed to let them know I'm coming at 2pm to collect my car. Then I get an email back saying the car is in lock up and the boss had the keys......what? I told them days ago I was coming to get it and they tried all the could to stall me....

I've owned the car 6 months and they have had it for 4 months, all it has was a box/diff issue and breaks need replacing, 4 months.

They've just been stalling me the whole time, no idea why.

Any ideas of what to do? Court action I guess.....

Hmmm. I was looking at them as a possible place to buy an STi.

How much of a test drive and inspection did you give the car?

Just a quick look round tbh, with the warranty I wasn't too picky.....

Fairly good drive but nothing out of 3rd/4th

If your even considering "upgrading" with them and spending a further 7k then you need your head testing mate. Either the fight the case and try and resolve yours or takes the 1.5k loss and chaulk it up to a bad experience and a lesson learnt.
But to give them even more money is ludicrous!

I am two weeks away from the small claims court and about £550 down so far with court fees and postage costs not to mention the amount of my time it has taken up

Will be glad when it's all over it's been like a cloud looming over me

Good luck with what you choose to do

Think our court costs were around £6000 by the time we won and we still had to pay it.

The trader and our solicitor screwed us.

as joe says I defiantly wouldn't be giving them any more money upgrade or not..you know the issues your having with the place so why would you want to pay more to them, they have already made a big profit from the car the sold you, and they will make another from the upgrade car.. and you'll be down around 2 grand in the end. either walk away out of pocket or get it back and sort it your self with a specialist, it will cost you obviously but your willing to shell out more on a replacement so ide rather get it fixed and still have a few grand in the bank

I payed 8.5k for the car chaps, I can't just walk away.

The 1.5k was reffering to them offering 7k for mine, plus 7k for the upgrade. Tbh I just want another scoob and I fancied an upgrade anyway. Was thinking along the lines that the car was faulty and they are usless with after service and repairs. Was hoping the upgrade would be ok but it would of been the chance I took.....Just wanted a car and be rid of them.

That's not small claims then pal no?
Small claims goes up to 10k now I think. Was advised it's only 440quid to put the case to the judge, then it will be refunded (when) I win

Surely thats just chucking good money after bad ? Why risk another £7k on a chocolate piston scoob supplied by a company with such terrible service ?

Only reason I'd buy a hawk is if it's forged.....and pushing 480bhp, 470lbft.....21k on clock.

I just want it, but understand your point

Aaah i see ,, even so id spend my money with one of the more respectable traders tbh

There were a lot of threads about cheshire and their aftersales etc and poor quality cars ,, not sure if these have been mostly deleted from here as cheshire did come on here and complain and say they were getting unfair bad press

Best of luck though , horrible situation

get the car back mate and get it fixed.. I wouldn't do anything else.

if your willing to give them more money then you need your head testing, its pointless asking for advice if you choose to ignore it and give in to them, they will be laughing

Personally what I would do is get a solicitor to send them a letter stating the fact that the car you bought from them was a pile of crap and you are taking them to court to claim all monies back. These would include the fuel costs back and forth to them, phone call costs etc. If they settle out of court you would be willing to accept said costs, but if you have to take them to court then the costs would escalate.

And I wouldn't even entertain buying another car from them!

If you took them to court and won, wouldn't they have to pay the court costs etc?

I think you need to wait and see what the car is like when you get it back this time. I wouldn't have high hopes but not worth worrying about until you know whats what. When you do get the car back if there is still some issues take the car to somewhere good and find out how much it will be to put right and then make your decision when you have all the facts.

If you get the car back and all is well then simples.

Good luck either way.
