Default STI Conversion Help

Hey all I am after some advice if possible.

Has anyone done an STI Conversion on a Bug V7 WRX to STI.

I have a wagon and am contemplating doing a full conversion.

I want to do the Brembo / 6 speed conversion anyway so might as well go the whole hog and do the engine too. My question is: Do I have to change over all the wiring loom and ECU etc in order to have the car mapped once the conversion is done?

Has anyone done this before?

Thanks in advance.

mate as easy as it sounds those costs do and will add up and you could no doubt be spending more than it would cost you to sell and rebuy an STI

the gearbox alone will set you back 1500 and the brakes 600 plus the wheels if you have normal WRX ones on

Cheers fella, I have a fully working STI as a donar car. I was going to just keep the sti but I love the wagon and decided an STI wagon is something a little rarer.

So i have all the parts to do the work, im just wodering if there is anything I should be aware of before doing it.

The only thing to bear in mind is that insurance costs on a modded WRX may well be QUITE a bit higher than on the equivalent STi.

Hi Craig

This conversion people done it

Brembo or 6 speed shouldn't be hard to do,but when you are thinking to putting STI engine with AVCS heads to yours then this can be bit difficult, yours ECU can't control AVCS and due this you will need STI or JDM WRX ECU which can control AVCS,loom you shouldn't need, but you will need to speak with Tim@JT innovations about the AVCS loom

Thanks,Jura

Thanks for all the info guys, Im just looking at options at the mo.

I am happy with 330bhp so may do the 6speed and brake conversion but not do the sti engine. just weighing up options.

re bug STI wagons there are only 4 in the UK and I have the interior out of one of them.

Heres some pics of her at the moment, over the winter she will be getting a saloon wide arch conversion on the rear, 6 speed setup, brembos, lowering a little more. may get rid of the bonnet spacers too not sure yet.

Your right mate they didnt come with brembos.

I was going to keep the sti saloon but after japshow there ten a penny, I thought a tidy tasteful wagon was a little rarer.

id say a donor car is the cheapest option rather than sourcing parts separately.
added to that you can always put the wagon running gear in the saloon and sell it on.

Yeah plenty of options, I am going to run the saloon for a month or so and make sure what i want to do is correct. Ive put a lot of time and money into the wagon now and I do like it. But its just lacking in power.

I have the following mods to add to her as she is:

VF35
800cc injectors
STI Inlet with TGV Delete

So may just fit those and then sell on the STI lump. If i break the car at all.

I'm not normally a great fan of the wagon but yours looks very nice.

Go for it, I'd say.
