Surely if you was buying a car it would be better if one was fitted so at least you know its been cooled down correctly assuming its all set up and working. I cant really see a bad point to them.

before you say it i dont have one fitted to my blob but do have one on my wagon that was ftted when i bought it.

I've got one,its more what you use it for,the impreza doesnt really require cooling down being a water cooled turbo but its very useful for defrosting the car with the engine running and no keys in it.

The cooling down is more for clearing the hot oil out of the turbo after a spirited run before you turn it off though.
good shout on the defrosting uses though.

are you still able to lock the car and set the alarm with it in use?

alarm no but you can lock the car by turning the key in the lock.the car can't be driven as once handbrake is released the engine cuts out and steering lock still works as no key is in ignition.

Agreed all you need to do is start the car then turn it off and take the key out and itll run on the timer. That said remote starts are a lot easier.

As Franklin D Roosevelt said, "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself".

Advertisers, on behalf of manufacturers, have played on that ever since.

'If you don't buy this, this could happen' etc. etc.

The classic on here is 'if you buy a standard UK WRX Hawk the engine will go BANG'.

Judge for yourself.

Fwiw I've had a 2000 Turbo and a WRX import. Neither had a turbo timer - and neither had any turbo issues.

Oh - and Litchfield (and no doubt other famed Subaru names) never put turbo timers in their cars.

Think about how many turbo cars there are out there that go into multiples of 100k miles, without replacement turbos, without turbo timers and being driven by people who don't warm them up or cool them down.

I think you'll be fine without one.

Had a few on my cars in the past both my gt4s had them fitted as did my MR2 and the only thing I liked about it was winter but It's not worth fitting one in my opinion. They had them fitted before I bought them. Just don't drive like a spunk trumpet when you know your coming to the end of your journey. I coast the last 300 metres in my street before I stop and just pick up all the stuff I'm taking in before turning it off... simple and no cost

But see also DC's post (#24).
Perhaps you're talking about a pre-02 one?

Afraid I can't understand what's on my sunvisor - bloody Japanese innit

If I remember correctly the cooling down requirement for classics used to be on the drivers door card just above the arm rest.
