Default should i buy standard or modified ?

Finally after sorting funds out and what not i have 7.5k and looking to buy my first impreza, after speaking to a few owners and specialist's i've had mixed answers, maybe this site can help i am kind of set on a blob eye Sti. However should i buy standard for piece of mind knowing its hasn't been played with,or a modified one ?obviously my price range is limited and wont get anything well spent on.

Secondly now ill be going viewing cars is there anything to look out for ?

Thanks

Buy by condition and not worry too much about mods as long as they are mods you are happy with, I have had two blobs and only problems I have had is a little rust under rear spoiler.

Just buy the best of you can for your money, lightly and tastefully modified or standard. Obviously the most important thing is service history. Anything heavily modified isn't going to be in your price range anyway.

Buy one modded well, someone who has bought Milltek or RCM products etc isn't likely to have been driving around with it running lean as hell.

TBH only full decat without map would put me off, a front mount and the owner claiming he's only ever run it on 95 won't help.

Am I right in thinking most imports will have been driven around for quite a while mapped for higher octane Jap fuel? I had an import with shot exhuast valves that may or may not be related.

Buy a standard one and drive it for a bit, and then decide if you want to ruin it, and if you do, don't expect to see your money back
this used to be the case 10 years ago. now well modded cars with good parts go for more then there equivalent stock rivals
