Default Any one know this car? BT07 hawkeye

Im back! Last logged in with my V5 sti in 2011..

Looking to get back in the fold and have agreed in principle a deal on the car from SJ specialist.

I have read up on SJ etc.. seems a nice fella

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifie...istory/2787740

Just thought I would ask if anybody knew this car as its modded etc.
I would hate to spend a fair sum of money to find its lived its life on track or been pranged etc.

Also, on this particular model I would would be very grateful if you gurus could tell me what to look out for and the common failure etc.

BIG thanks in advance

Shaun

Well, first thing is 'mapped by Green Monster' - which isn't the same as 'Jolly Green Monster', so either they are trying it on or know little about the Subaru scene.

'Dual mapping options' - but doesn't say what they are (the 370 could be Meth).

ARP studs and Cosworth gaskets - but without forged pistons (which AREN'T mentioned) that's not a plus.

Litchfield Type 25 handling kit - I could possibly put one of them on, but could I set it up properly ?????????????????????????

'Turbosmart adjustable dump valve' - wtf?

All that being said, ask them about these things, and anything else others will mention.

You'll get an idea if SJ stands for 'Subaru Junk' or not.

Thanks, I will ask about the above.

I have been doing a lot of reading this evening seems this 2.5 has chocolate pistons?

The mapper thing.. I guess or hope they have just read that from the paperwork and not put in the full name by mistake.

Having perrin parts is a plus from what I have seen I.E not cheap would be a shame if its has had all of this and the H/G done but no pistons.

Are the power claims realistic without meth?

AS above really...

Similar to my spec tbh..

Although if it atleast hasn't had the pistons done it would be an absolute tragedy!! Also need rods doing aswell in a perfect world.

You'll want to see ALL receipts for ALL work done.. Obvioulsy goes without saying.

The ride will be very harsh IMHO.. And the bhp figure seems high?? But possible?

And IMHO it's NOT "one of a kind". Just what you would expect from a car like this...

Thanks again!

I will email in the morning for the full spec list. I have been assured that it comes with all the receipts for everything on the car.

Touch wood because I really like this car.

I don't know this car and can't comment on it other than to say it could be good and is worth a really long look at.
You need to know if it's had a full engine build, and if you can't find the invoices, assume it hasn't.
Re the suspension, the Litchfield kit with the correct AST's is very good, and I'd say about the best for fast road use there is. Bear in mind that this is subjective, and to try the car yourself!
It's clearly had a lot of money spent on it, and if that does include a forged engine build, you're getting close to having the car free with the mods.

Thank you Alan.

So what I am thinking then is that the deal breaker is all about the internals.

If the pistons are "that" bad and it hasn't been done I should walk away.

From talking to Scott at SJ I got the impression the modifications have been done for some time so in my brain that means either the map is really good not to det / melt the engine or it has indeed had internal work,

Checking the reg I mapped it once in 2010 and once in 2011 with a 3inch

370 is unlikely. More like 350-360.

Especially if it's then sat on a driveway with a knackered engine.

Hopefully op's questions will be answered and they'll be happy with their new car.

Glwtp

PS I can vouch for AJ's comments re. the Litchfield setup.
