Default Which wax

Wanna give my white spec c its first wash and wax and was wondering what the best wax product to pick up from halfords is I keep seeing good reviews for the Meguiar's wax but it varies in price from about a tenner up to £30....

Just wondering what you guys are using and what you recomend.

Thanx

What colour is your spec c? I get great results on my white classic with, wait for it..... Colour magic!. Im into cleaning my car and have tried allsorts. A good start is,

A decent clay bar/cloth
Cleanser for the paint
Decent polish, like Super resin, tripple, etc
Then a nice easy wax like Autoglym hd or one of the dodo range.

It's all in the prep! Make sure your car is decontaminated with a clay bar and tar remover, and if you can then also an iron remover on the lower parts. Give it a polish if you can as that will enhance the gloss of the car, then either go wax or sealant depending on your preference on durability vs looks. For a budget of £30, I'd either get Autoglym HD wax or Auto Finesse Tough coat.

Tried plenty including AG HD wax and dodo juice but i dont think you can beat Collinite Super DoubleCoat Auto Wax #476. Its a decent price and comes off without using a chisel (AG HD)

I agree that AG HD is a pig to remove which isn't fun and can inflict marring on our soft paint.

Have a vote for Collinite 845 for ease of application just to confuse you even more

Last time I used AG HD wax was on a 350z after giving it a 2 stage machine polish, wiping the paint with a mix of IPA and water to prepare the panels.. that was a pig to remove !

If you aren't sure on waxes or sealants check out www.polishedbliss.co.uk, they're pretty descriptive and informative or drop me a pm.

If its halfords lee, get a wheel brush, wash mit, drying towell, a pack of microfiber cloths. Autoglym shampoo, polish, clay bar kit, clean wheels and meguairs carnuba wax. 3 for 2 the lot. Been there done it!

If you want to go online the poorboys range is good and well priced from polished bliss.

Dodo juice light fantastic, about £32 for a tub. It's a soft wax so easy to wax on wax off.

I use Auto Finesse Tough Coat Sealant and I find the results awesome with a white car

You get a nice glossy wet look which is hard to achieve with white cars, as with any Wax\Sealant it’s the preparation and the decontamination stage is the most important to your final results

Online.

If your car is white then it's best to use a sealant instead of a wax. You may not want to take my advice but I'm an active member on detailingworld.com and for lighter colours such as white/silver/grey a sealant IS the best to use for reflection and general shininess. If you are interested in considering a sealant then the one to use is the Werkstat Acrylic Kit. It's easier to apply than a wax but the only downside is that it isn't as long lasting as a wax so needs to be applied more often. I wipe mine over with it once every 2 months to keep it topped up which only takes an hour to do.

The reflection on silver (this isn't even machine polished):

I can vouch for S3LDM's white hawkeye it's mint however I use Meguiar's 3 step system on my wr blue Blobeye first a good wash using the 2 bucket method obviously, then Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner step 1, followed by Deep Crystal Polish step 2, then finished off with Deep Crystal Carnauba wax step 3 and I can't fault it but I haven't tried many other products so can't speak for them but the Meguiar's stuff is good enough for me. The only thing I'm struggling with is what to use on my alloys????

Only had 1 white car and I used to use, blackfire gloss enhancing polish and Blackfire wet diamond all finish paint protector!!
Used to buy most of my stuff from here:
http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/

My old Evo after using Blackfire products!!

Car cleaning can get as addictive as modifying, there are plenty of products out there, and you can pay £100's of pounds just for a pot of wax

You did a cracking job on my hawk when you had it in for paint, took most of the swirls/scratches out and it polished up really well.
Also when my dad had his WRX back from you, that was the same, no scratches/swirls and it looked shiny/clean.

what did you use on them???

Here's what I did

one of the lads at work raves on about dodo juice wax, so decided to do a test,

bonnet pre cleaned and then split in three

left to right, purple haze/ hd wax /blue velvet

heres some pics of the wax

blue stuff

hd wax

purple stuff

as you can see theres a distinct difference in beading..

In terms of application and removal and feel there was no difference. No difference in beading etc*

What people need to realise is these types of products are very similar and usually produced in the same place

All wax does is protect what is already there, most of the hard work should be done on the prep, Id rather spend my money on a decent polish and any wax which is easy to get off with not to much effort!!

Here is what I do to the paintwork:
wash,
dry,
bug remover,
clay bar,
wash again,
dry again,
polish,
wax
a couple coats of spray wax/detailer spray
