what car to go for other than subaru :\
Hi all,
I have owned subarus now for nearly 3 years, started with a blob wrx, then classic type r and i now have a blob STI.
I have loved all of them but now wanting to further my career by doing my HGV licence I need to free up about £1500, also after now owning them for 3 years I fancy a change for a bit too.
So what cars have people owned that they loved to drive as much as there scoobies? I will have between £5000-£6000 to play with so there is quite a lot of choice for my next car but this also means the amount of choice is making my head hurt lol.
my only parameters are, i dont want a high millage car, cant be worse on fuel than the STI (not hard lol) and must be reliable as its my daily

280bhp isnt bad!! how was that achieved? I was looking at the old shape s3's too but your right, they all seem to be really high millage exept the new ones which are still really pricey

I would stick to four wheel drive, I find driving front wheel drive cars now just flimsy, and the way the weather is hitting different extreme these days, I like to be able to drive in the snow, so Rear wheel drive wouldn't cut it.
If economy is a thing, the A3 TDI Quattro S Line, is as good as they come with an oil burner...
You could pick up an Mk4 R32 Golf for about that as well...they seem to have low mileage than the S3's of similar years.

really? they look a bit big, that paired with massive power on the front wheels i always assumed they would handle like crap?
was looking at the focus st's though, they look like a good shout, plus i know its quite easy to see 300bhp out of them

yeah i have had a lot of hot hatches and seems like the higher powered ones as soon as it was a bit moist out could get fu*k all power down. iv never had a rwd either (apart from an mr2 thats mid engine so dont really count) so fancy one.
I was looking at the 330ci's as well but my pal had one and said it was really boring to drive :/

Type r is quite boring tbh, I had a facelift for six months. How many miles you doing? Unless 15-20k a year forget a diesel. 330ci are nice, quick ish but a bit boring. What about a Clio trophy? Depending how much space you need. Drive superbly, quick and return late 30's.

207 gti, never driven one but I reckon they will be **** with lots of typical French issues. Don't get a diesel as you don't do many miles. I would get an r26, stunning cars and very capable out the box. Been to a few trackdays with people who have owned them, excellent cars IMO and very quick once played with. Stage 1 map

with above, r56 cooper s mins have the same engine as the 207 gti and ds3r, worst engine ever, bmw should have been shot for putting a timing chain in that and a bad pcv system
