Default Wasted trip.....

Just been to see a blobeye sti.

Immaculate I'm told

Full main dealer and specialist history I'm told.

Got there, I thought it looked decent when I first seen it.
1. Rust under rear wing
2. A couple of main dealer stamps, then the rest of the history was back street garages, some of which was handwritten and not stamped.
What kind of garage fills a service history in and doesn't stamp it.
3. Smelt like it was running rich, I could smell unburnt fuel when standing behind it, it had a 3" exhaust on it, I'm guessing the petrol smell isn't normal?
4. Clutch felt heavy.
5.front discs very badly worn

It's hard for me to tell what's normal and what's not normal with regard to it running rich and the clutch as it's the first blob sti I've driven/viewed

If every blob is like that I don't want one!
5 hours travelling wasted

Rant over....

It could have been burning rich but a straight thru exhaust is going to smell abit,ALOT of newage boots rust where the wing meets the boot where the water channels are,it's pretty common. Clutch could be a number of things but as long as it's not high you'd be fairly sure it wouldn't have been on it's way out.

Maybe i was just being a bit fussy but I don't understand why he said it was immaculate when i spoke to him on the phone.
Why not say what the actual car is like, I mean I'm going to see it and tell sooner or later.

Would have been wise to have asked on here first if anybody was local to the car and could have a look at it on your behalf before making a 5hr journey.I was asked by a mate from LADS to have a look at a car for sale in cumbria which was local to me took it for a test drive etc etc reported back my findings to him he then travelled up on my recommendations and thoughts on the car he now owns it.

That's the car, the viewing was rushed and totally supervised which I don't like.
I'd rather be left alone to try all the switches and dials, make sure the lights horn and air con work etc. test drive was short.

I was shown an invoice for brake pads like it was recent , till I noticed the date was 2008 lol

Not the car for me I'm afraid.
I just wanted to see what a 2003 car was like. I think I'm better off looking for a nice 2005 widetrack.

Yeah I did kind of brush over the immaculate part,if it was advertised as immaculate it should have been.

If it's not been looked after it wouldn't matter what year it is,there's some immaculate classics out there...it all depends on how it's life's been

I guarantee if he was honest and said there's a bit of rust and ropey service history and a funny smell from exhaust , you wouldn't have went near it. Better (for him) to say its in good order to at least get you there. I had same problem selling my 12 bugeye , was probably too honest and got nowhere until a forum member took one look and snapped it up.

I wouldn't worry about the fuel smell, most cars that have been decatted and mapped will stink to high heaven on a cold start up. Usually it's not too noticeable other than when sitting in traffic. Knackered discs suck and rust on an 'immaculate' car is a bit of a joke, especially from a trader! That said, discs are only £110 a pair from Godspeed. When I bought my WRX I knew I'd need to replace the front discs and pads so budgeted the £200 or so accordingly. They weren't mentioned in the ad from the dealer (well, the pads were) but I wasn't that bothered as I tend to view things like that as part of the new car 'tweaking' budget I usually have set aside for the little unknown things that always crop up.

Yeah. I could have made a decent car out of it.
Get the fueling checked
Get new front discs
Get the wing removed and the boot sprayed
Stick a new clutch in for peace of mind.
But that was out of my budget

You can polish a turd but it's still a turd. The owner lied, the end.
