What do i need to go from cone filter to standard air filter?

Someone has suggested i get rid of the big cone air filter i have so going to put a standard on it in next few weeks but wondering do i need a maf sensor or not?

Have you had it mapped to loose the maf?

sounds daft but i dont now the history if its been mapped or not but does run very nice no coughing or hiccups from it

surely you know if you have a MAF, there will be a plug plugged into the induction hose connected to the air filter...
