08 WRX hatch or 56 WRX hawk
Hey guys n gals
I'm looking to buy my first Subaru!
I'm completely torn between the 08 WRX hatch and the 56 WRX hawk that I have been scouting for a while!
I can't really afford an sti and the insurance is pretty high for both cars, a bit less for the 08.
Both vehicles have fsh and less than 50k miles, surprisingly there isn't a huge gap in price between the two.
The 08 hatch does come with a 12 month warranty.
I'm just struggling to weigh out the pros n cons!
I prefer the looks and extra practicality of the hawkeye.
But the reassurance of a 12 month warranty and slightly cheaper insurance of the hatch is tempting.
Please help!! lol
Thanks, Matt.

If you was to go with the hatch you could ask the dealer to take the warranty out of the deal and adjust the price accordingly. Iam not saying that you would like to have no warranty or whether its a good idea or not just that its not the dealer that is offering the warranty. It is a company separate to the dealer and he is selling you somebody else's product and is just acting as a middle man.
You can buy warranty like you buy insurance, in fact it is insurance and the dealer is not offering anything that you can't go and get yourself. In fact the warranty probably cost maybe a few hundred pounds and then they will add a bit on top for the cheek of it. Get the car you want and if you like the idea of warranty for peace of mind go on whatcar or Google and buy your own, its not actually that expensive.
With regards to the car, I have not driven a hatch so maybe not the best to comment but the hawk has a better record for reliability and is more Subaru like from what iam told if that makes sense. The hatch is supposed to lean a bit more in the bends and in my opinion doesn't have as good a sound track/exhaust note.
Good luck and if you have any more questions keep them coming, I will try to keep it a bit shorter next time.
p.s the v.o.s.a m.o.t checker that I put a link to in the warranty link in my first post is a must when buying a used car. Its free but you do need to have the v5 in you hands/details to do it but well worth it. It will reveal hidden problems from the past, if you can't find the link Google is your friend.

I did it!
I test drove both vehicles today and have decided to go for an 07 2.5 WRX.
It's as bog standard as they come and has on 46k miles from new.
6 service stamps, 4 at Subaru.
Hoping to take it to scooby clinic soon and get a dyno run just to see what it's running at the moment.
Can I just ask, what are the brakes usually like on a hawk?
They felt like you had to have a heavy foot to really slow the vehicle.
Part of the deal was a full service and it only had it's last one in February so I'm not too concerned. Plus it could have been cos the car had been sitting for a month or so I guess.
Can't wait till Saturday!!! 😁

grats, wrx brakes are pretty crap tbh (assuming theya re in decent working order by the way), braided lines, decent pads and discs are an option. failing that a big brake kit. have a chat with the guys up at the clinic, they can advise on whats the best route to go depending on budget and use

As someone who regularly champions the hatch on here, I find it hard to recommend the WRX version.
If you're after a Subaru experience, go for the WRX Hawk. And put some decent brakes on it!

Picked up the hawk this morning, had a lovely 60mile drive back home!
I complained about the brakes on the test drive and requested that they get looked at by the garage.
They replaced the front discs and pads! No extra charge!
It stops much better now.
I really recommend the garage I got it from, George Rhodes up in Stoke on Trent. Great service, quick and efficient!
The first time my dad saw it the first thing he said was 'It's not loud enough!' Lol
I think a straight pipe is needed
